One tiny little positive thing...

Assalamu alaikum
Out of about 20 newspapers and TV stations that I tried to contact about translating "jihad" as "holy war" I got one reply from the LA Times:

>Your letter was forwarded to the office of the readers' representative.
Thank you for writing. I hope you haven't seen that translation lately; as I understand it, editors here have, indeed, decided to stop translating "jihad" as "holy war." I'll forward your note to the assistant managing editor of the copy desks, as she is the one who told me about the decision, and let you know if I hear anything more on it. Thanks for making this point.

Greetings,
As an American speaker of Arabic, I would like to know why
the word ''Jihad'' is still translated in the media as ''holy war'' even
after many people on many different occasions have given you the
correct definition of the Arabic word which is ''Struggle''.  These people
have also repeated over and over again that misuderstanding occurs
because the word is translated this way, causing people to believe that
Moslems actually believe in this kind of terrorism.  Why do you insist on
nurturin that kind of misunderstanding?  I would greatly appreciate a
response. Thank you. Meriem Fitzgerald

Umm, no, I haven't told anyone else except you guys.  I'll send CAIR an email.
