Inter-faith council??

slm,

Last week our MSA held a little Islam information session on campus. We held it in an auditorium and Alhamdulillah had a decent number of non-Muslims show up (including the media).  The people had a ton of questions and I saw a few people really show some interest and ask the speaker for his email address to keep in touch etc.

So I thought maybe it would be cool to do a little "Inter-faith council" thing like our masjid does with the churches and synagoges.  I could get in touch with the head of some of the Christian clubs and Jewish (if there are any) and try to set something up.  But before I propose it to my MSA, I'd like to get a better understanding of just what this would entail, what should be included, format, etc...

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Take Care,
Wassalam,
Nazia

salaam Sis,

this sounds like an interesting idea... i think in the past there were debates and so on between religious groups, but they can get pretty nasty if you're not careful.

Perhaps you could arrange a meeting between the execs of your MSA and the execs of the christian and jewish groups and just have a friendly chat...perhaps you could come up with a common point of view- such as pro-life, anti-drugs and alcohol, pro-marriage, anti pre-marital relations etc...then you could present your cases from the teachings of each religion in some type of presentation or seminar.

If your MSA is small, then you could perhaps team up with these groups to achieve a greater good- such as being active during orientation and providing safe, non-alcoholic activities for students etc.  I was thinking of doing this for with MSA since we are reaaaly small....but its just an idea at the moment.

wasalaam,
Ahmed
