So what type of things do u guys plan on doing this ramadhan. after all..ramadhan is a time for purification, althought most of us seem to think its' a time to indulge and enjoy family.

So i want some suggestions...anything and everything;)

salaam,

the countdown to the blessed month begins... i guess now is the best time to start making plans.  Our muslim students association only got active this yr and I'm keen to organise some regular activites that can be done during the month..at our next meeting we will discuss this, inshaAllah

Of course there is the taraweeh prayers that I'm keen to keep up with during the month...down here in NZ the days are reeeeaaaalllly long being the middle of summer...so all the more opportunity to fit more things in during the day ;-D

I was thinking of holding halaqas for the local youth and islamic story telling- stories of the Prophets (pbut) and also of the sahaba.  Also Quraan reading and perhaps learning conversational arabic.

I'd like to see our community get together for once and hold iftaar together every day, even get together at the mosque in the mornings, have the morning meal together and pray fajr....what a beautiful start to the day :)

perhaps we should start a Ramadhan community update where we post updates on what each of our communities are doing during Ramadhan and perhaps this will give us ideas to implement in our own communities...just a thought.

wasalaam,
Ahmed

I'm taking a couple of days of work and I'm sorry to say this, I think I'll have to take a couple of days of this board Maaan its so adictive that I just come back for more and more.

When I'm off work , I think I'll ponder over my life, where its going and what I'm doing, ramzan is a good time for self reflection, perhaps spend the last few days in the mosque.

Trying to organise the committe in the mosques will be one of my wishes and make everyone think how we are gonna strive forward together as muslims in this country.

I'll insh-allah, make loads and loads of dua for everyone including u guys here. :)

I agree this is addictive bro but hey don't be gone too long, we need your good nasiha around here.  Also the more time you spend with positive people, the better off you'll be....I'm finding that.  This online community revitalises my energy and spirits and motivates me to do good for my own community...

My own community on the other hand sometimes drains my energy and spirits....it ain't easy trying to motivate a largely apathetic people to do something positive, but i'm hinging on the law of inertia- once you get a large mass moving, it's reeeaally hard to stop

i better stop here and get some work done.;-D

Salaam

Ramadan for me has always been work and more work.  There have been times where I had to spend iftar away from family.  This year I am going to make a special dua that I am able to spend more time with my family during iftar.

Also, I have two small very active children therefore I always had to forego tarawih at the mosque and perform it late at night.  Sometimes I am so very sleepy and tired that I miss tarawih. I resolve to be stronger so I can perform my tarawih solat more. ( if all else fail I will feed my children sleeping syrup lol.  kidding )

Above all, I hope to spend this Ramadan in lots and lots of muhasabah because sometimes the world just don't make sense so its good to turn inwards instead.  Wallahualam.

Wassalam.

salam,

I would encourage everyone, men and women (if possible) to at least spend one night in the mosque during the last ten nights.. Masha-Allah it is an absolutely amazing experience. I have spent at least one night in the mosque for the past three ramadans and everytime I have this overwhelming feeling of peace and tranquility which are just beyond words. Masha-Allah it's so nice to see the mosques brimming with all kinds of ppl, men women and children; and to see so many ppl standing in prayer in congregation in the late hours of the night and the early of hours of the morning; and to share your suhoor with fellow Muslims. This is the best part of Ramadan for me and one I look fwd to every year. ^_^

salam,
merimda

Assalamu alaikum,
What I'm going to try to do this Ramadan is: Not miss any taraweeh.  I agree with merimda that there's an incredible feeling of tranquility in being in a crowd of hundreds or thousands of people praying (the mosques really do get full, and even more so during the last 10 days).
The way to not miss any taraweeh is to be awake enough after Iftar to go.  And the way to do that is to have a light Iftar and save the real food for after the taraweeh.  So, my other plan is to keep things really simple for Iftar, which is something I always say I'll do but no matter how little I prepare it's always a lot!
I can't wait!! :))

Since I have still got some holidays left to take, I was thinking of taking every Friday afternoon off, pray Juma at the mosque, then go home and prepare some food to send to the mosque for iftar, (Inshallah). For the last couple of years I have been sending food down whenever I can, although it's hard to do this during the week as the fast normally breaks during work hours.

I also hope to attend more taraweeh prayers at the mosque rather than pray at home. My son is a little bit older this year so it may be easier to pray without him disturbing me and the other sisters.

Any parents on the board with small children? How do you keep them from disturbing everyone else during Namaz, especially taraweeh which is generally longer? I am running out of ideas.
