Divine Touch:
Who inspires the caterpillar
To desert her coarse grains
For the enveloping
Warmth of a cocoon?
Why else does she surrender
To the bitter sweet pain
Of emergence
Save the ecstatic dances
Of butterflies?

Who sings the songs
Willfully curving plant
Spines
To flickers of light?
Why else do they melt
In the most delightful contortion
Save the splendor of the
Sun’s embrace?

Who gave the blind man,
Vision to penetrate
Heart rending beauty?

Who allowed the deaf to
Orchestrate the most
Poignant songs of life?

Who can tell of the tragic
Torment of separation
Save the darkened gloom
Of an eclipsed moon?

Who else can speak of
The woeful tale of
Withering death
Save rusting meadows
With rich green
Remembrances?

Can sand filled shells
Recall echoes of
Ocean depths?

Does luscious Hawaii
sigh when reminiscing
Her smoldering
On Pacific’s floor?

Can you really describe the
Boundless generosity of the
Tropical sun to one contently
Wrapped in
Winter cloaks?

Show me the one that
Can feel the
Depth
Of a lover’s rapture
Save the Adored?

Who emptied this vessel
Out and
Filled it with awe?

Who am I to divulge
Secret delights
Sparked
Within this
Yearning soul?

Do you have the gallantry
To slay all that
Is for show?
Who will inspire you to
Scale heights
Many have joyfully died trying
Before?
Is it the depths you yearn to
Explore,
Or are you safer frolicking
On life’s sea shores?
-Maliha.

Shukran:)
I have thought about it...With time Inshaallah...I am really just beginning on this amazing journey and I feel like I have a long way to go:)
Besides I am fearful of repercussions (distorted words/meanings)..does that make sense?
Last line: "Who is the Most Eloquent, Save the one who inspires fools to adore? :)"

Ditto. ^_^

Can one learn to write like you or is this something one is born with? If it can be learnt I wish to be taught. ^_^
Can one learn to write like you or is this something one is born with?
It's definitely something you're born with.  You can learn to write poetry.  But great poetry is sheer talent.  And any talent is a gift from Allah that He gives to whomever he pleases.

It's like, can you learn how to play basketball?  Yes.  You can.  Can you learn to be as good as Michael Jordan.  No.  That is sheer talent.

P.S. If anyone wants to argue with me about the greatness of MJ, take it up in the Ikhwan Club.  But I'm warning you .. don't mess :)

Nice one, as Always. :)

Yes, I know of one incident where it was used and somebody managed to get away with murder!. Excessive poetry is also dangerous.

Yours is quite different, but then again, I'm a sucker for poems. :)

"Excessive poetry is also dangerous."

I agree..excessive "Unfocused" Poetry...I wrote a wholllleeee lot of that through out my "journey"...
But I think in any endevour to really be good at something, one has to let go of the shackles of "self"...(Big time Jihad)...I couldn't begin to touch my true poetic instinct, until I re-focused my energy to the "Most Eloquent" of all:):) Alhamdullillah..All praises do go to Him indeed..

You still got yor notes ?? Or scrap book I could do with a bit more money in my pocket by publishing those Unfocused but perhaps profitbale poetry. 1/3 profit yours, 1/3 profit mine and a 1/3 to orphans.

By the way you couldn't do a poem for orphans could yah ? I'd appreciate it very much. In time for ramadan and post it up at mosques so people contribute to the helping of orphans.

Jajakallah

Are you serious? What do you know about publishing? Either way, i won't publish those works, cuz I will even be more scared of leading some "unfocused" person more astray:( Besides isn't the market jus' bursting with all that stuff....

Inshaallah, I will attempt to do one...I am working on two other separate lines of thought...I will just go with the flow and see what happens...Inshaallah Kheir.

You don't have to know much about publishing to do something like this, its how much you believe in yourself. If you thing u can do it then you will, otherwise you won't.
Besides isn't the market jus' bursting with all that stuff
Sometimes you see something and you know its a good thing, its a marketing thing. The place where I live have this regular reading month, people go over there they read some of their works, look at art consume some cheese and wine and buy a few books.
Its all upper class stuff, but the upper class have money to spare.

I've been there, no, not to have cheese and wine but just to see what its like, man some of the works they read...!

You can start off by going to a reading class and then build it from there, however, have some poems that you feel comfortable with and your onto a winner.
