Attention, attention, calling all budding poets. This is the official Madina Poetry Competition thread.

Entrants should try to create poetry with ‘The Madina Community’ as the genre. Thus you can compose poetry based on certain rooms, certain threads, issues, Islam, what the Madina means to you, or even write poetry about certain members of the board (I can just see all those nice poems about the popular bro mujaahid flooding in from the sisters) :D

Well just to get things started here is my entry:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
And all Madina citizens are too (esp. me) ;-D

The competition winner will receive a wonderful prize - a published book containing all of our outstanding poetry (perhaps not). Maybe once published our poems could win the booker prize 2002 (maybe not again) :D

p.s. I've just come back to amend this thread because I only just saw 'cow poetry' in another thread. What can I say except hmmmmm. I'm hoping for better standards here mooooooooooo.

Very interesting, I was thinking that its about time that there was another friendly competition.  I hope when people evaluate my poetry they take somethings in consideration, mainly that it is highly evolved.  Although my poetry may seem basic and simple and that not much thought has gone into it, its purpose is to make one laugh. ;)

The Poet
========
I am not a poet,
Everyone knows it,
There are cows in Albany,
Heheheh, very funny,
Bling-bling that's it.

To protect the cows in Albany all bad poetry about them will be banned from the competition :)

Violets are blue,
Your sisters so beautifull,
what about you???;)

take care.

Oh yes I can see the standards are certainly getting better! And Lisha and Slime are definately current leaders in the competition result board. Excellent work girls - I can see great artistic talent shining through!

My poem entry:

Madia, Oh Madina

Whenever I come home, from an extremely hard day
I switch on my computer and see what Madina citizens have to say

There are so many rooms in the Madina, each one has become a treat
With friendly brothers and sisters whom I would dearly love to meet

The topics discussed range from funny to really sad
There are even some posts that can get me pretty mad

But most of the time posts are full of jovial fun
Which means whenever I read them I’m never down or glum

My favourite room is probably the wonderfully informative Sisters one
With chats ranging from nail polish to hairstyles like curly or in a bun

All in all I think Madina citizens are cool, chic, artistic, happening and now
And even their poetry is great as long as it’s not about an Albanian cow!

read, remember, learn, pray
smile, give, and sometimes play
that's our Islam, that's our way
hope to see Allah on the Day

that's about as creative as I can get :)

OK, first things first, I don't do poetry. However, I am game for a laugh, so here's my tuppence worth...

This one's in Urdu

Madinay ko jain ye ji chahta hai,
Sher-o-shairey sunaaien, ye ji chahta hai

Idhar Saleema ki payaz ki kahaniyan
Udhar Arshad ye Gaaein
Kabhi Khud Hasein,
Khabi Doosron ko hasaaein

Madinay ko jain ye ji chahta hai,
Madinay ko jain ye ji chahta hai...

Ok, I got three words on that one: Madina(y), Arshad, Saleema.  I'd say my Urdu's pretty good :)

what in the world is "payaz"??

Translation of Morning Star's poem:
==========
The heart longs to go to Madina
The heart wishes to sing some poetry

Here are the stories of Saleema's onions
There are Arshad's cows
Sometimes having a laugh
At other times, making others laugh

The heart longs to go to Madina
The heart longs to go to Madina

Ok I'll give it a try...

     Hania said it best
     better than the rest.
     She said all the words
brought in on the wings of birds
Of Allah may she be richly blest.

oops! It's amazing how a typo can change the whole meaning of a poem...

The line  'Udhar Arshad ye Gaaein' should read 'Udhar Arshad Ki Gaaein'

So the whole verse should be

Idhar Saleema ki payaz ki kahaniyan
Udhar Arshad ki Gaaein
Kabhi Khud Hasein,
Khabi Doosron ko hasaaein

Madina is the place to go
To share your highs, to share your lows.

A friendly face, a welcome smile
will take you in to rest a while

stories, jokes, good and bad
memories, dreams, happy, sad

lessons learned,  help doled out
to all in need, to all in doubt

never mean or harshly told
just soft and warm like shining gold

I love it here, this board of mine
I hope it stays till the end of time.

slm,
...friendship!!

One quality you have that is a real appeal
is that you are totally real.

The way you feel, you don't conceal,
and my secrets you'd never reveal.

When I found you, I found a good deal.
As far as friends go, you're ideal.

If I was starving, you'd give your last meal,
and from your friends, you'd never steal.

You have a wonderful appeal,
and you're so ideal,
it's almost like you're surreal.
but I know you're truly, totally real!
:)
hehe
its not my own poem, but i liked it:);)

take care

Lisha did you steal this poem from an advert?

Is bit this off a Big Mac commerical?
