| http://www.zaytuna.org/message.html Dear Zaytuna Supporters, In response to the September 11th tragedies, we have received several e-mails, phone calls, and faxes from people all around the world. The majority of the messages are from supporters, both Muslims and people of other faiths, encouraging and showing their gratitude for the efforts of our leaders. We understand that in this time of great confusion, many people may have questions and concerns. As the media bombards us with strong views and opinions from many directions, many are left feeling disoriented. As a public service organization, Zaytuna Institute and Academy has an obligation to try and restore some stability for Muslims as well as people of other faiths who seek our help. In response, our top representatives, such as Shaykh Hamza Yusuf Hanson and Dr. Hatem Bazian, have appeared in local as well as national programs educating the American public about the Islamic faith. Having studied Islam extensively and having direct recourse to erudite and renowned Islamic scholars, both men are highly qualified for this job. Our first and foremost objective throughout this ordeal has and will be to distinguish Islam and Muslims from the horrific actions and the individuals who carried out those actions on September 11th. We are not interested in taking part in the political ‘buffet’ that these events have cooked up. Zaytuna maintains its no-politics policies. We do not affiliate with groups, clubs, or parties. Our affiliates include those organizations that strictly share our ideals and goals for the dissemination of traditional Islamic knowledge. Zaytuna condemns the actions of anyone who defames the name of Islam by maliciously using it to bring about injustice, violence, and mass murder or to encourage such abominable actions. In the aftermath of September 11th, since many people mistakenly see Islam as being on trial, it is the responsibility of the more eloquent and knowledgeable Muslims to come up to the witness stand and defend it against the heinous crimes it has wrongly been associated with.
