Isn't it amazing?

once again the most beautiful time of the year is roling around again - Ramadan! when i was a kid i used to be excited about ramadan because it meant lots of nice food like pakoras and samosas, and sometimes my parents would let me fast for half a day and i felt so grown up. then things changed. as i got older i went to a school where i had no muslimah friends and i began to see ramadan as a chore to be got over quickly.  ???
but subhanallah for the last four years i have become like a child again in my enthusiasm and restlessness for ramadan to come around again;-D - although not for the same reasons. a big influence in my life came when i started university and became friends with the sister who was the head of the islamic society.  this sister is now one of my best friends in the whole world, and it is through her that i have really begun to appreciate the beauty of ramadan. however, she said something two years ago that also made me fear ramadan in a way - she said that during the rest of the year when something bad happens it is very easy to blame shaytan and believe that he was influencing you.  in ramadan however this excuse is removed as shaytaan is locked up - this means that any evil is within ourselves.
this frightens me a little but i am also glad because it means that i know what things i have to work on to improve because i can't make shaytaan my easy scapegoat.

inshallah may Allah SWT help us all in our jihad to improve ourselves this ramadan. ameen.

jazakAllah khair for sharing that:)  In previous years I really hadn't understood the full significance of Ramadhan...yes i fasted and perform most of my salaat and read Quraan every now and then..but i really didn't make an effort.  This year i feel different, full of anticipation and looking forward to Ramadhan.  I've taken steps to slowly improve myself this year and Ramadhan will be a culmination of these improvements, inshaAllah.

This Ramadhan I'll join my fellow mujahideen in jihad for internal reform- the positive change within to make ourselves better muslims, inshaAllah.

I remember the very first time that I fasted during Ramadan. It was a beautiful morning. The air cool and not humid as is usually the case in Lahore, Pakistan. I was so excited and felt so proud that I was the only child keeping fast from all my cousins. I sat down on the floor in the kitchen, I was feeling groggy and was quietly watching everyone busy cooking or cleaning something. Then a scorpion bit me on my back.

I still fasted--and ate a snack during the day and drank some water. Excuse being that I saw a bird, and when you see a bird you can eat something a drink a little water and that still means you are fasting. That's what I told my cousins. I was a hero that day.
