Hmm,
what's Halupkis, Spedies, rogan josh?  and WHAT are vinigar sandwiches??
I LOOOOVE dahl.  My friend used to bring me some for lunch every day :)
A Moroccan version of Dahl isn't as spicy. it involvese tomatoes, garlic, cumin and paprika, fresh coriander and (if my husband doesn't notice) parsley.  And lentils of course :)
Hanif (with 1 f?), dinner is the only real meal we have, so jam sandwiches just won't do :)  Although I do make thin pancakes sometimes and have something salty like cheese or tuna on them for the main course, and jam or chocolate on them for dessert :D
It sounds like you have dinner at home Monday, Tuesday and Sunday, and on Wednesday and thursday and Saturday you eat out, and on Friday you're invited to dinner.  Am I right?  :-)

AWW,
Jam sandwiches for dinner don't tell me that's your cooking night bro!  and what on earth are vinegar sandwiches
Jam Sandwiches are there for two reasons,

One for remembering the hard times that I went through, and Monday is my Physical fitness night as well. I need the sugar.

As for vinegar sandwiches, I read once that the prophet saws loved Vinegar. One day I tried consuming it with bread dipped in vinegar and meat, man I was hooked, such a simple thing yet it provided me with a morsel that was beyond me describing how good it tasted. No wonder that there are a few hadith on Vinegar "Hadrat Aisha RA. (allah be pleased with her) has related: The Holy prophet saws once said, "What a nice condiment vinegar is" {Shamail e Tirmizi] According to another tradition, the Holy Prophet Saws prayed for vinegar to be blessed and mentioned that the former prohets also used this (vinegar) with food.

My other reason to have this food is maybe one day I might be going through hard times again. And I won't be able to have the pizzas and chicken burgers, but I may have to contend with very simple and coarse food. Its my way of training my inner self. Also by having simple food you remember people not so fortunate as yourself, in Tajikstan(nx to Afghanistan) the people over there are eating grass to survive :(, no bread, no curry just grass. Man thats awaful.

Anyway gotta go.

Halupkis are a slovak dish

Meat and rice wrapped in a cabbage leaf and baked in a tomato soup.
Speidies- a marinated chicken breast shish kabob found only in my area
Raed's Liver- the way my husband -Raed- can only make it
Magdies steak- He used to be our meat man- he could always pick out the most delicious steak
Lasagna- ya gotta know what that is....

what to cook for dinner? A question that I am faced with every second day. (on the in between days we eat leftovers).
Well, it's usually roti or rice with one of the following:
dahl (lentils)
gosht (meat, 99% of the time lamb)
alu kima (potatoes with mince)
alu palik (potatoes with spinach)

On evenings where I only have myself to cater for, the Irish in me kicks in and I have egg and chips or steak and sometimes I make Spaghetti Bolognese.

I found this fantastic recipe for the french dish "Pot-au-feu" in a magazine the other day. I'm dying to try it out but I have to buy an oven proof dish first. Do you have the recipe? If not I can post it up here for you.

mmm..getting hungry now...time to go and make the chaval.

As salamu alaykum M.F.

Do you want to hear what we eat all week or would you like some recipes?  I have thought of a few quick and delicious ones, if you are interested.  Just let me know and I'll post them.  If other people have quick and easy one I'd be interested, since I run out of time during the week and I'm not really a kitchen person.  My strength is cleaning.

As salamu alaykum
