It is letter writing time for me! The old gang here probably remembers helping me with this two years ago- but alas my husband erased everything in my computer.... ( another story at another time)

So do you all mind fine tuning this one?

Also I am hoping that these will be archived on this site (PLEASE- someday you youngins will have children and wonder where Kathy's letters are))in case someone (not mentioning his name again) ever hits the wrong delete button again...

Dear Mrs. Valenti:

I would like to bring to your attention the upcoming Islamic month of Ramadan and its implications for Ali.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic calendar. This year, it is expected to begin on November 16 or 17, depending on when the new moon, which indicates the beginning of a new lunar month, is sighted.

Muslims, who have reached puberty, are required to fast during this month. The fasting entails abstaining from food, drink and other actions between dawn and sunset each day during the month of Ramadan, which lasts 29 or 30 days.

Although Ali is not yet at an age where he is required to fast, he looks forward to Ramadan every year. Last year he fasted a couple of days without it negatively affecting his health or his school
work. We would like to encourage Ali’s participation in Ramadan again this year to cultivate his spiritual growth as a Muslim.

However I am not asking him to fast, yet as you know Ali’s character, he will want to try. I will continue to send him his snack and lunch.

If you are interested, I can do a presentation about the month of Ramadan and our holiday at the end called Eid ul-Fitr. I have done this presentation in other classes at and it has been well
received.  Although I am not a ventriloquist, I use a rod puppet named Zach to help me teach the kids. This may be a beneficial step toward  tolerance and openness to diversity as part of the children’s learning experience.

If you have any questions please feel free to call me at ... or e-mail me at Kackie@lycos.com  Thank you for your time and attention.
I really do appreciate your openness and accommodating Ali.

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Cc. per e-mail Mr. Principal
( if you are wondering why I do this- it is because he has asked me to do this in the past as he is
interested )

Very good, perhaps one day when you go in you could break your fast over there with your son. That way insha-allah he'll have two good things,
his mom giving a presentaion and then following on from there,
breaking fast with mom or dad.

I don't see how your letter could be improved further.

By the way do they have school governers where you are ? Perhaps your husband and yourself could become school governers. We have them in the UK and masha-allah it helps a lot.
Governers over see the kids school life from start to finish, for example, schooling, eating, playing, education etc etc.
