i know there's been a lot of discussion about salat al istikhara, i was just wondering if there is anywhere that i could find out specific formulas to insert in the du'a (i mean in the bit that says this matter), eg when one is searching for guidance in a difficult decision? how do you know what phrase to use?

[hope this makes sense]

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah,

Here's a word you might need to know:

zawaj* ;)

Or you can just say the person's name :P  Hehe.. just kidding.

I never really thought about it before.. that's a great question :)  InshaAllah some of the Arabic speakers out there can help us out..

wasalaamu alaykum.

* zawaj = marriage

That part doesn't *have* to be in Arabic.  The "matter" (the part said after 'haadhal amr') can be explained in any language.  For instance, you could say after 'haadhal amr' ...

"that is, my marriage with so-and-so"

or

"that is, my education at such-and-such university"

or

"that is, me working at such-and-such company"

and then continue with "khayrul lee fee deeni ...."

Repeat the same thing after the second "haadhal amr."

Wallahu a'lam.

Wassalamu alaikum.

I made a mistake in my last post!

I said:
Repeat the same thing after the second "haadhal amr."
This is not necessary.  That is, if you explain the matter after the first "haadhal amr" then that's enough.  You don't *have* to explain it again after the second "haadhal amr."
