Assalamu'alaikum :-) Thought of sharing something a sister of mine wrote. ============================================================= THE DAI's WORLD A dai' is never promised A life of ease on earth A dai' is a ghurabaa Who differs from common norm In disciplining oneself To be steadfast in sabr To be firm in holding the akhlaqul Islam. Despite what "disasters" or "calamities" That may have come. A dai' will be tested Times & again in the promise he has made To spread the right fikrah Not for people but Allah's sake. It is this intial niyyah for HIM That many a time people went astray Because precisely patience to standby The principles & manhaj of da'wah Is a difficult amanah Forsaking the ethics of Islam is common Because it is the least painful way To get a quick short lived natijah Which Allah may not give HIS redha O dai' have you ever reflected Deep in your heart and soul Do you embrace da'wah for Allah Or is it to champion the things you feel are right? O dai' do pray to Allah To show you whether what you believe Is what HE wants you to do Not what the environment you live in Has successfully indoctrinated you. Ummu Hanisah Glossary: Da'i:Those who call others to Islam Ghurabaa: Stranger Sabr: Patience Akhlaqul Islam: Islamic Character Fikrah: Worldview Niyyah: Intentions Manhaj: Methodology Da'wah: The call to Islam Amanah: Trust Redha: pleasure Please correct me if I've translated wrongly. [slm] Shukran for sharing the poem...some organizers had a workshop at our Masjid on "Dawah giving"..and it saddened me that they had to go over the "characteristics of a da`i" (Kind, non aggressive, etc)... Aren't those Muslim characteristics anyway? Isn't the best dawah the one that actually teaches thru' action and not empty words?? Anywayz, jus' some reflections.... :-) Maliha :-) |

Assalamu'alaikum :-)
Shukran for sharing the poem...
Afwan, ukhti :)
some organizers had a workshop at our Masjid on "Da'awah giving"..and it saddened me that they had to go over the "characteristics of a da`i" (Kind, non aggressive, etc)... Aren't those Muslim characteristics anyway?
I guess, it can be difficult to understand why there is a dichotomy. And I would agree with you that these characteristics are supposed to be embodied by Muslims in general too. Nevertheless, there are many kinds of Muslims. Some Muslims prefer to disassociate themselves from the larger society, whereas there are some, who would want to work with the society and bring Islam closer to those around them. Naturally, the tests that these 2 groups of people have would differ. The dynamics and challenges that a da'i would face is different. And there are some characteristics that is more imperative to achieve at a higher level for those who aspire to be a da'i than others... for a person must have something to give something, without the expense of loss on the giver. It's about sharing and giving the light of Islam to others, yet, it is not like the light of a candle, where the candle lights others but burns itself... but it is the light from Allah, that strengthens the giver too. Yes, a da'i is to be kind, non-aggressive, wise, steadfast, have the Qur'an in their hearts, be full of love and mercy to others etc etc etc. These are all Islamic characteristics. But it is achieving a higher level of these, and applying it.. in context of giving da'wah, is why perhaps, the workshop and many other lectures and books on da'wah is for - to do the right things, and to do it right. A brother once said, that the path of da'wah is being laid out with a red carpet. Not that of roses, but that of blood. It takes sacrifice to tread the path, and a lot of pain and hardship as well. But this is one of the biggest sunnah of Muhammad (s.a.w) as well of the other Messengers of Allah - spreading al-maaruf (good) and forbidding munkar (evil), and this can be manifested in many ways. But the price of Jannah is expensive. And what surrounds it are difficulties and hardship. If we pay for gold, we'll get gold. If we pay for peanuts, we'll get peanuts. Hence, perhaps, inputs on what makes a good da'i is important for those who wants to follow this sunnah of Ar-Rasul.
Isn't the best dawah the one that actually teaches thru' action and not empty words??
Yes, it is. Empty words are like empty vessels, they say... - they make the most noise. May Allah give us the strength to do what we say, and make our last deeds, our best deeds. Take care :-) wassalam |
