Taliban Say Shot Down U.S. Helicopter, Many Dead
By Sayed Salahuddin

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan (news - web sites)'s ruling Taliban on Saturday said they had shot down a U.S. helicopter killing up to 50 soldiers and had downed a U.S. plane in a separate attack.

The helicopter was brought down after the Taliban opened fire in Nawoor district of Ghazni province at around 11.00 p.m. (1:30 p.m. EST Friday) while it was trying to rescue another aircraft that had crashed in the area, said Qari Fazil Rabi, an Information Ministry official in Kabul.

The U.S. Central Command rejected the report.

``No U.S. helicopters were shot down in Afghanistan,'' CNN quoted the Central Command as saying.

In Islamabad, the Taliban envoy to Pakistan said the Taliban had brought down a U.S. plane on Saturday.

``It's a very huge plane. We do not know the model,'' ambassador Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef told reporters.

There was no independent confirmation of the report.

``We believe some bodies may still be in the area. Because of heavy snowing our mujahideen (holy warrior) brothers are finding it hard to find the bodies.''

PENTAGON SAYS ALL RESCUED

The Information Ministry official in Kabul said between 40 and 50 Americans had died in the helicopter crash.

``You can see the bodies of the Americans on board the helicopters with their uniforms,'' he said.

A U.S. helicopter on a special forces mission in Afghanistan crashed in bad weather at about 1830 GMT on Friday, injuring four crew members, but all were rescued and evacuated from the country, the Pentagon (news - web sites) said.

In Washington, Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Dan Stoneking said of the latest Taliban claims: ``As we stated from day one, we don't respond to Taliban claims because more often than not, they turn out to be false.''

Pressed further, all Stoneking would say to counter the Taliban report was that the Pentagon's statements on Friday evening about the crashed U.S. helicopter ``speak for themselves.''

On Friday, the Defense Department said: ``At approximately 1:30 p.m. EST (1830 GMT) today, a U.S. military helicopter crash-landed in Afghanistan due to severe weather.

``The landing severely damaged the helicopter. Four members of the crew were injured, none life-threatening,'' the statement said. ``The entire crew has been safely recovered out of Afghanistan and the four injured servicemembers are now receiving medical care.''

The Pentagon said F-14 Tomcats from the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt destroyed the damaged helicopter, a standard U.S. military procedure in cases where high-tech items are lost in hostile areas and might be used by an enemy.

Another helicopter rescued the crew from the downed craft.

Assalaamu-alaikum!

Just been listening to that stuff on the Radio, BBC. Apparently the Taliban say they may have shot down one of those huge b-52 bombers. Also they have downed 2 US Helicopters! One they shot at which caused it to crash, the second the rescue copter was also blown out the sky with a large number of US casualties! The Taliban guys should carry with them camera's, either still, or video, to show this evidence as conslusive proof! I do not doubt that they have shot these planes down, but physical evidence would be severly damaging to the coalition and its allies, and support from thier countries for the attacks, and it would also hype up the muslim world  even more and show that our boys, our heroes, true heroes, the mujahideen are whupping the Coalition guys big time!

Maashallah Taliban, i have always said they will not let down the Ummah, and i will always back them, and masshallah they are doing the ummah proud.

USA, UK, and the rest of your buddies, we are ready and aiting to tar your forces to shreds! The AFghans caused the destruction of the Mighty USSR, now its time for the mighty USA to taste a similar destruction.

Well done Taliban.

More proof that Allah is the greatest:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Twelve elite U.S. Delta Force commandos were wounded by Taliban troops in an Oct. 20 raid in southern Afghanistan (news - web sites), and some American officers were angered by the Pentagon (news - web sites)'s film show of a separate parachute strike that night, according to a report released on Saturday.

Despite comments by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that resistance to the two raids was light, author Seymour Hersh wrote in The New Yorker magazine the Taliban surprised U.S. forces with a fierce firefight at one target.

Hersh reported in the Nov. 12 issue the fight erupted as members of the elite and secret Delta Force emerged from a house in a compound near Kandahar sometimes used by Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, who was not there.

``It was like an ambush,'' he quoted one senior officer as saying. ``The Taliban were firing light arms and either RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) or mortars.''

It was ``a tactical firefight, and the Taliban had the advantage,'' the officer told Hersh, who reported that 12 U.S. commandos were wounded, three of them seriously.

Defense officials declined to comment on the Hersh report or discuss further details of last month's raids in response to questions from Reuters.

So much for "tactical superiority" LOL they are only deceiving themselves, Allah has promised victory to the believers in this world and the next and Allah does not break his promise.
