Assalamu'alaikum, As far as I know, Thumma in Arabic means "Then" ... Ameen, means "Accept" ... usually when we say Allahumma Ameen, it means, "O Allah accept (it)" ALlahu a'lam.. maybe some Arabic speakers can shed some light on it. But I've never heard people say Thumm ameen, though. Wassalam :-) |

slm well I finally got around to asking my husband about this last night. He says it is pronounced Summ Ameen or Summa Ameen and it's like saying "Very Ameen" or something like that. It has the normal meaning of Ameen but it's putting more emphasis on it somehow. I'm surprised that none of the Pakistani members of the board have answered this... wasalaam eleanor |
I'm surprised that none of the Pakistani members of the board have answered this...
Some of us have lost our touch! :) BTW, "summa" ameen is the pakistani pronounciation. "Thumma" ameen is the Arabic (and correct) pronounciation. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah. |

[slm], I looked up the arabic dictionary and Thumma can mean then, thereupon, furthermore, moreover, and again and once more (emphatically in repetition). Remember 'Thumma Kalla Saufa Ta'lamun'? So The last meaning from those I listed above seems appropriate (and again and once more (emphatically in repetition)). Maybe some arabic speaker can correct me if I am wrong. Wassalam |
