hi i am new to this forum but some postings i've read and it seems that people here are genuinely trying to help each other. so i thought i'd write my problem her and if God wills i can read some advice from some brothers and sisters. i am a muslim woman born into my faith. i am a doctor. the thing i'm confused about is that in my culture men are allowed to have dreams and aspirations for their careers and not women. for them it is considered a part time thing if the husband or family allows. so what is Islam's point of view on this. I have had dreamt of following my career into more specialization. i dont want to make it a full time career, but i cant think of my future as a house wife only. i wanted to go to USA and do training in a hospital there. but my parents would maybe marry me in my country to someone who lives here and then all my dreams end just like that. what do i do? |

i am a muslim woman born into my faith. Masha-allah. i am a doctor. Masah-allah, we need muslim women doctors, just like the desert needs rain. As for specilaisation, its a bit tricky I would say, I know some specialists spend years in study and at work and become only specialised later on in life. I guess that would be a problem if your husband wants to settle down to a family life. Howevever, I do know doctors who are married, are specilist in their field and are Muslimas :). I think there needs to be a balance in your life, you and your husband to be if he is a doctor like you then it would be easy I think to work things out because you guys would see things on the same par. You could ask your parents to find someone who complements you i.e. in your imaan and in your career(your imaan can also be increased if you make the intention that whatever knowledge you gain as a specialist then you will help the muslim ummah, insha-allah). The other advantage is that whatever you specialise in, we as Muslims need that field and especially when you are a woman. It makes sense. And why go to the US ? There are field hospitals all over the world and perhaps your country might be better suited, I don't know, I'm assuming here. May Allah make it easy for us all. Ameen. |
