slm, This is a rough translation - Please keep in mind that arabic poems are hard to translate literally and still keep the meaning and that english is not my first, nor second language...so don't laugh :) Leave…by Imam Al-Shaafe'ee. No comfort exists in an abode for those with intellect and manners Let the homes and become strangers Travel, and you’ll find substitute for whom you leave Explore, for the sweet taste of life lies in it I have seen that stagnation in the water spoils it If it flows it becomes good and if it doesn’t it is not good If the lions did not leave the forest, would not have devoured And the arrow without parting the arch, would not have hit the target Had the sun been firm on its orbit it would have bored the people, Arab and non Arab The golden dust in its environment is like dirt And the Frankincense stick in its habitat is a type of firewood If the latter becomes estranged, it is sought after dearly And when the former is estranged, it is valued as gold |

Rough translation : Let the days do what they will – And appease your soul when the decree is set Don’t be saddened by the event of the nights- the episodes of the world do not last Be patient on adversity- and mark your character with forgiveness and faithfulness Should your shortcomings be many- and you desire to conceal them Then cover yourself with generosity -for every vice can be masked by magnanimity Never allow to be humiliated by the enemies- the gloating of the enemy is indeed an affliction Do not wish for clemency from a miser- Fire cannot yield water for the thirsty Your sustenance cannot be decreased by caution- nor will it be augmented by obstinacy(??) Nor sadness will be permanent nor happiness - Nor misery nor comfort But if you have a contented heart – Then you and he who possesses the world are alike A person on whose ground death descends – No earth can protect him nor heaven The land of Allah is vast – But when the verdict falls, space shrivels Let the days betray every now and then – for treatment cannot ward off death |

[slm] Amazing and stunned... She had stumbled yet again upon the same light that keeps mesmerizing her, calling her... yearning... she is reaching out and turning back to those unfortunate ones. How torn she felt... How can she leave the dead ones dying and go towards eternity without crying... The elixir was in her hands and she couldn't get her eyes off the gem. Maliha. [wlm] |

The ill mannered addresses me with vulgarity – and I hate to answer him(in like manner) He increases in foulness and I increase in patience – like burning causes the frankincense stick to dispense more of its heavenly scent |

rough translation: Renounce the one who does not care for you except by pretension and do not languish over him People have substitutes and with letting go comes relief And there’s patience in the heart for the beloved even if aloof Not everyone you hold dear, does his heart love you in return Nor does everyone whom you’ve made peace with has done the same If genuine reconciliation does not come by natural inclination there’s no use in an affection that is kept by pretenses Nor can good come from a friend who betrays his friend Meeting him with coldness after warmth Who denies a long-lived friendship and discloses a secret that yesterday used to be covered I wonder at the world if bereft of a just and trustworthy friend who honors promises. |
