back in the days....

maan its so funny hearing about some of the things people used to do back in my father's time!  Its usually when my Aunts and Uncles come over when these conversations start.

They were telling my once about how the guys (in Fiji) used to a really pretty gal on the streets and they would carefully follow her home to find out where she lives, then get info about her family and get his parents to make moves for marriage...they called it "going gounder" i think.

oh yeah and they also used to cruise around in cars with hair brylcreamed back, checking out the gals walking on the street...hehe not much has changed has it?

Any of you guys (n sisters) have funny stories about things guys used to do back in the days??

as salaamu alayum :)

Well from what I can understand from the Indian movies my mom watches from the 60's, if a guy was interested in you back in the day, he'd serenade you in a public place. Then, you'd run away, preferably looking back every five seconds and pulling your dupatta over your face and smiling shyly and batting your eyelashes. Then, he'd follow you around, and you'd keep running away (usually to a big green field). Somewhere around this time random people would start to sing and dance along as, like, backup pips to the guy. Then it'd starts raining. Then finally, you'd stop running away, and you would sing too, and then you two would sing together. And then youw would have a wedding and everyone would be happy and throw flowers at you and everything.

I don't think my parents got married that way though :)

Talking about wierd rituals.. this is one I've heard about quite a few times, usually happens at those Indian/Pakistani "events". If a guy starts following you around - literally walking around behind you, stalking you - this means he's interested in you. Then, if you're interested in him, you'll drop a piece of paper with your name and number on it.

Isn't that crazy? I'm sure I'm not the only one who goes "what the???" when hearing about this..

Se7en!  None of that stuff happens (or used to happen) in real life!  That's only good for Bollywood and tv commercials. (alhamdulillah :))

What Ahmed is talking about does sound similar to the kind of stuff I heard from my uncles!

LOL!! ;-D good one Se7en! you forgot to mention the part  that the guy usually starts off the song by playing on  a flute or a sitar or something and then he forgets to play it once  he starts singing. But it doesn't matter because the imaginary orchestra is playing along at this stage anyway.
What I find *really* funny about these films is how if there is a fight scene, all the bystanders and onlookers are standing in perfect lines in  a perfect circle around them.

Tales my mother used to tell me...how her brother went on his bicycle to get the milk and accidentally cycled into the river.. The river runs through the village she lived in and she says everyone in her family fell into the river at least once.
But most of her tales involve stories of Kufar activity, so best not relate them here ;)

WOW really??? hahaha!! hey who's keen to try this out??  Shall we try an experiment- the next time one of you (single) brothers are at an Indian/Pakistani event, try this technique and see if you can get a number!!  ok I'm in...who's with me??

Eleanor, how exactly does one "accidentally cycle into a river"???  I'm imagining a single plank of wood for a bridge.
