| assalaamu alaikum, i've been trying to figure this one out as a zakat newbie: if there is a debt outstanding, is zakat payable on the zakaatable amount minus the debt or should you clear the debt and then pay zakat on whats left. If you choose not to pay off all the debt but potentially can, then for the purposes of zakat, the zakaatable amount shouldn't be reduced - right? i have tried getting an hanafi answer to this but thought a post here might geta answer from you experienced lot out there. jazakallah imran |
