New Muslim

There was couple of reason I converted to Islam, but the main two reasons were:
§      TRUTH
§      ONENESS of ALLAH

Islam was introduce to me through my mother at early age to understand other religions besides Catholicism.  As I was getting older, I was questioning my teachings.  Like, Why are we worship Jesus (Pbuh) as son of God but yet God tells us not to worship anything other then him, or How are we to believe how accurate the scriptures Jesus (Pbuh) brought with him when they were written a century after his passing.  These were some of the question of out of many I had.

Then my mother pass away and my hurt and anger turn toward God and the world.  I was anger and hurt for couple years then something within me started to change.  I ask God for forgives and it seem like he always there, waiting for me to come back to him.  I went back to church but those questions and doubts were still in back of my mind.

Then I learn my father was dying from cancer.  I went to see him to give him my two cents but instead I did not.  When I saw him come out of his friend car, I saw not only a man dying but also my father.  I knew then he does not have to answer to me but instead to God when he passes away.  After he died, something within me changes again.

I did not go back to Catholic Church but only when my family went, only out of respect.  I then went a little soul searching.  I look into other Christianity religions as well as the Jews faith but again they seem not to yearn for me.  Then something pops into my mind, Islam.  I started to read information about the Islam religion on the Internet and it seem like God himself was pulling me towards this religion.  I felt this was what I was seeking.  Then I went out two months ago and brought the Qur’an.  The moment I started to read the Al-Fatiha, I knew this was what I was seeking all this time.

Since I took my Kalima-Shahada, I feel happier and closer to God then before.  I hope through the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (Pbuh) I will become a better person then I think I am as well as bring me closer to my family then it is already.

Assalam u a’laikum wa rahmatu Allah!

Assalamualaikum,

MasyaAllah this is great!!!!! Alhamdulillah that you found your answers James :) . Welcome to the Madinat Al-Muslimeen :-) . Just don't get addicted ;)

James in arabic? Are you changing names?

Well, I don't know what James in arabic, but here are some Muslim names that sound similar to James.

Jamaal - Beauty
Jameel - Beautiful
Jaafar - Rivulet
Jawad - Generous
Abdul Jabar - Servant of the Mighty
Abdul Jaleel - Servant of the Great

Ok here's something funny. While I was searching for Male Muslim names. I found a link : Louis Farakhan's African Name Generator. You put in your name and it'll generate a new African name for you. So, silly me, I put James and your African name is : CINQUE!!!! lol
And my name is (my real name that is) Shuakhwe . The page wrote something like this.
Throw away your white mans name <Your Name> Fromk this day forward you will be known by all your bro and sisters as <Shuakhwe> .
LOL :-) !!! Maybe I should change my nick in here ? But the generator change all the time. So, you'll get diff names all the time. My name is not even a "White Man's Name". ;)

Here are the few websites I found.

Mashallah Brother James, I too came to Islam travelling a similar path as yours: raised catholic, started questioning the doctrines and beliefs as a teen, then researching and studying other religions, and finally finding Islam to be the truth and most practical sensible way of life.  Now that you have embarked on the straight path, it is important to stay mindful of what brought you to Islam in the first place when faced by the temptations and trials.  I leave you with an ayah from the Qur'an "Those whom Allah guides, none can misguide"
