KCom Journal Israel, living in a glass palace The latest bombings which erupted in occupied Palestine i.e. Israel drew immediate condemnation and sympathy from leaders around the world. While Yasser Arafat, Jordan, Egypt, France and Russia led the condemnations, Ariel Sharon addressed the Israeli nation at the Knesset extending the sympathies of President Bush and America. In such circumstances, the call for Israeli restraint would be the normal course of action that America would urge, whether or not Israel would heed such calls, which historically it never has. But earlier, US Secretary of State Colin Powell told the CBS network, “We’re not about to tell Mr. Sharon what he should do.” And Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld appeared to back Israel's oppressive policy of murdering ‘suspected Palestinian militants’, previously condemned by Washington, when he categorically stated: "The only way to defend against terrorists is to go after the terrorists." But these vitriolic statements from the country that has perfected the art of international state terrorism, America (as exposed after the WTC bombing on the 11th September) to a country that excels in domestic and regional terrorism, Israel – represent statements of those that live in a glass palace throwing stones at others. Take a look at the recent history prior to the establishment of Israel. Jewish terrorists started their attack upon the Arabs of Palestine from the 16th of April 1939 when records began to be kept (though they definitely occurred before this date) and the terrorists randomly shot two Arab civilians passing close to Betah Takfe settlement. And the terrorist activities continued from that moment nearly without stop until our present day. The market places, main streets and poor residential areas in cities like Jerusalem, Yafa and Haifa were easy targets for the terrorists especially in the year of 1938. During that year more than a hundred civilians were killed as a result of more than ten incidents using bombs. The terrorists repeated these actions again in the beginning of the forties with their favourite targets being cafes, restaurants, hotels, trading shops, residential homes, offices and Arab schools in most of the cities and villages. Perhaps the most well known incident was the blowing bombing up of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem where most of the Palestinian government’s offices were situated (summer of 1946). As a result of the explosion two hundred civilians were killed, most of them Arab and English. The average number of Arab civilians killed in each month of the six months preceding the declaration of the birth of the state of Israel reached a 150 dead. As well as the above-mentioned areas, the terrorists also concentrated on banks and public facility centres, mainly in the petroleum facility of Haifa, from storage tanks to refineries, pipelines and factories. Between 1947 and 1948 these facilities were subject to many attacks. And each attack would result in the death of tens of Arab civilians between workers, technicians and administrators. As for the banks, attacks on them increased from the beginning of 1946 until the middle of 1948. Not only would these banks be robbed but the Arab employees would also be killed also. As for the main Jewish terrorist target since 1937 and for more than ten years was the means of transportation: small cars, buses, Lorries, trains, roads, and bridges, rail tracks and stations. The authorities recorded more than 500 civilian killings in the years 1937 and 1938 only. As for the years 1947 and 1948 the danger increased (regarding the number of attacks and the victims) to the extent that movement from one place to another became very dangerous for the ordinary Arab civilian, in the villages and cities or around them. Then came the illegitimate state of Israel, justified by the United Nations, which the ‘western world’ considers sacrosanct and the final arbiter in international disputes but which has been exposed as a mere tool of the powerful states sitting on the Security Council, particularly America. But the hypocrisy was evident as the UN, which legitimised its existence, became the same institution which passed numerous resolutions like 242, 425, 1337, 338 in condemnation of the terrorist behaviour of Israel. Israel took no notice. Then came the witnessing of Israel’s policies violating the Fourth Geneva Convention, which outlaws attacks against civilians and forbids permanent settlements by any nation outside of its boundaries, even though Israel itself pushed for this convention and signed onto it. These home demolitions are only one part of Israel's ongoing policy of harassment, impoverishment, torture and killing of Palestinian civilians in an effort to force them to flee their homeland. The internationally recognised ‘butcher’ Ariel Sharon whose hands are bloodied with the massacre of Muslims in Sabra and Shatila in 1982, who dealt out the orders as Israeli Defence Minister. Now he leads the Israeli nation. As Kathryn Kingsbury, journalist from The Capital Times, put it, “And by our silence, we condone Israel's own atrocities against the Palestinian people. The Israeli death toll from the current 10-month conflict is around 140. In the same period, more than 550 Palestinians have been killed. As with the Israeli deaths, many of the dead Palestinians were civilians who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.” This sentiment is echoed by all those who have witnessed the Israeli terrorist aggression against the Arabs, before and since its creation. Clearly, Israel lives in a glass palace, brittle with the inhumane and oppressive policies it launches against the innocent and those who seek to regain all their land, honour and dignity. This palace will eventually smash as will the State of Israel. With this in mind, the following points must be made clear: • The media and the politicians alike are astute in the terminology that they use in describing the death of people. The death of an Israeli is considered a ‘murder’ committed by ‘terrorists’ and demands swift action from the coward and stooge Yasser Arafat. The death of an Arab is considered a ‘targeted killing’ or unfortunate ‘collateral damage’ by ‘Israeli troops’. This was proven in a major surrender to Israeli diplomatic pressure, as reported by the British Newspaper, the Independent, “That BBC officials in London have banned their staff in Britain and the Middle East from referring to Israel's policy of murdering its opponents as "assassination". BBC reporters have been told that in future they are to use Israel's own euphemism for the murders, calling them "targeted killings". • Look how one Muslim crisis is put under the shadow of another. Afghanistan is thrown on the back burner as the Middle East conflict unfolds. How soon before this conflict is put under the shadow of another conflict where Islam, the Muslims and their lands are the targets again? Then how soon will Palestine or Afghanistan re-emerge to take the central focus? Let us not forget that the crises that encapsulate the Muslims from one corner of the world to another do not subside but remain with every new conflict that arises. • The matter of Israel is clear, its existence is illegitimate and it is the duty of the Muslims to remove its corrupt presence from Palestine. This matter is a hukm of Allah which cannot be changed by the passing of time, or by the corrupted and treacherous acts of reconciliation by the rulers over the Muslim world and the government scholars who support their treachery. This matter is also a matter held by the Christian Arabs and those from amongst the Jews who both remember and were informed by their previous generations of the tranquillity that the Islamic System, al-Khilafah, provided them – and how Israel has been the oppressive and corrupt alternative. And Allah (Subhanahu Wa ta’ala) says (to the nearest meaning): “O you who believe, fight the disbelievers who besiege you, and let them find harshness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.” (Surah Al-Tawbah: 123) Burhan Hanif 04 December 2001 Source: K.Com Journal |
