How was your 27th night?

Isha and tarawih prayers started at 7:30pm here and finished at about 10:10pm, with a lot of men crying during the duaa.  We finished the Quran.  About 30 guys were going to pray and read Quran at the mosque till fajr, alhumdullilah.  The whole thing was pretty emotional.  Last year there was mithai, this year there was nothing. :(

Our mosque was packed! Both floors rammed! Some people were apparently having to pray outside in the bitter cold considering our capacity is in excess of 3000 ppl. The whole thing from isha, tarawih to the end dua lasted about 2hrs till 9.30ish after which numerous activities were going on.
We've also had a few sheikhs from Egypt to recite the Quran this ramadan and last night they were continuing well into the night for those enthusiastic. Other people dispersed, some off home, others to secluded parts of the mosque to be alone and others doing the usual in their groups catching up on the latest gossip ;-D I really wanted to stay longer and soak up the atmosphere but had to be off.

Wasn't as emotional as last year. Maybe the crowd of people was a distraction making it hard to concentrate but the dude next to me was crying.

We got free mithai bags last year....and more this year ;-D Considering my dad was there aswell, we got 2 bags ;) too bad Arshad, maybe next time eh :) ;-D :D

Assalamu alaikum,
The night of the 27th is tonight here in Morocco as well.
My husband and I came to a conclusion.  Rasulullah (S) said to watch for laytatul qadr on the witr nights (21-23-25 etc) of the last 10 days.
However, (for reasons valid or not) the witr days in Saudi for example are the non-witr days here, and vice-versa.
So, the hikma from (we concluded) it is to take advantage of all 10 nights.  That way you're sure not to miss it :)  Insha Allah.

I have heard that on the morning after laylatul qadr, the sun comes up pale and white.  Does anyone know why?  I have my own idea but I don't know if it's correct.  I think it's because of all the angels going back up to their places in the heavens.  The reason I think it's angels is because of a hadeeth... let me find it so I don't say something wrong...
Narrated Usaid bin Hudair:
That while he was reciting Surat Al-Baqara at night, and his horse was tied beside him, the horse was suddenly startled and troubled. When he stopped reciting, the horse became quiet, and when he started again, the horse was startled again. Then he stopped reciting and the horse became quiet too. He started reciting again and the horse was startled and troubled once again. Then he stopped reciting and his son, Yahya was beside the horse. He was afraid that the horse might trample on him. When he took the boy away and looked towards the sky, he could not see it. The next morning he informed the Prophet who said, "Recite, O Ibn Hudair! Recite, O Ibn Hudair!" Ibn Hudair replied, "O Allah's Apostle! My son, Yahya was near the horse and I was afraid that it might trample on him, so I looked towards the sky, and went to him. When I looked at the sky, I saw something like a cloud containing what looked like lamps, so I went out in order not to see it." The Prophet said, "Do you know what that was?" Ibn Hudair replied, "No." The Prophet said, "Those were Angels who came near to you for your voice and if you had kept on reciting till dawn, it would have remained there till morning when people would have seen it as it would not have disappear

Therefore, what we can see of the angels looks like clouds or haze, and that's what makes the sun hazy on the day after laylatul qadr. I mean that's what I think but I don't know if it's true of course.
Does anyone know anything about this?
And Eid Mubarak by the way!! :-)

I have heard it was great. Our Qari’s recitation is Mashallah awesome! My husband came back after fajr and said that the masjid was jammed packed with men and women!

I really wanted to go but I didn’t cause didn’t wanted to spoils other people’s ibadah( because of my kids actually because of the younger one he goes to school at the same masjid so he gets super hyper there thinking it is his own house :)) Inshallah next year! I simply prayed at home.

Wasalam
tq
PS: My husband didn’t bring any mitahi also – may be they didn’t give it or may be he ate it :)

I forgot to mention there was a little lecture by Br.Khaled Blankenship also (which i missed also :()

i already mentioned a little bit about our 27th night... but okee, here's how it goes at our place :)

isha'a prayer begins at 8...usually around 7:30, people start coming in, so me and my sister went around that time and it was JAMMED packed, we have an upstairs area for the ladies and then a downstairs one, BOTH were SOOOOOOOOOO packed and i saw my other sister, who mashaAllah is doing itikhaaf, and we told her we wanted to squeeze in and pray next to her, but she refused :( *sniff sniff*

so now where do we go to pray? my sister and i had to go pray in the upstairs class room where the kids have their garbage all over the floor and what not, but i'm not complaining, alhamdulillah i got a space to pray! so yeah, they opened up a classroom, got packed in less than two secs, and in the end, had to open up three more!

and i think some brothers had to pray in the cold too here!

so we prayed ishaa, and hmm, i'm sorry, i am describing this in too much detail, sorry if i'm boring you guys! hehe..i'll try not to add in more details...

we prayed ishaa, and the first set of taraweeh namaaz's..had a break, during which Imam Siraj Wahaj fundraised for the mosque, alhamdulillah i think they got around 100,000 dollars :) i forced my sister to do a pledge form thingy with me! haha

so then we finished the last set of taraweeh namaaz's and then they had about a 15 min break and then had witr, which was EXTRA long...and then they had a lecture for an hour about the Night of Power and then some other activities and many people were bringing in their items cause they were going to stay up all night...

unfortunately, we did *not* get to finish the Quran...our Khatm'l Quran will take place on the 29th inshaAllah :)

as for mithai- we never got any! i've been deprived! :( hehe, just kidding :)

but yeh, altogether, it was a pretty jammed packed namaaz yesterday, it was nice seeing people from all different countries, because usually the mosque is dominated by Palestinians and Somalians...this time we had the Pakistani's, Bengalis, Moroccons, Americans, etc etc...

so that was it, sorry, i blabbed alot, eh?! i know, i talk ALOT and i talk very fast as well, two things i need to work on! inshaAllah...

and i really like this thread, i hope more people post how their 27th night was!!! Good Job Bhaloo for asking =)

okee dokee, Wa Salaams

Salam,

The 27th night was nice (the finishing of the Quran and the dua)... but it didn't really feel like Laylut Qadr for me..Things like adults getting frustrated and shouting at children, fussy srs (who were sleepy over for tahajuud) who wanted all the lights off and total silence so that some srs who wanted to read Quran had to read on the stairwell (this caused a little bit of resentment but nothing serious), and there was even an accident in the mosque that resulted in a broken foot..this all really took away from the experience..It should be a night of peace..^_^

The 23rd night of Ramadan was the best for me so far.

I felt that last Ramadan was better as well..but there are still a few more days to go..so we'll see

salam,

btw: for the record..I stayed up till sunrise.. and the sun rose up bright red as usual this morning..^_^

oh and in the sisters section they were giving out baqlawa and that bright orange sticky stuff..I forgot the name..

The brothers got cake..^_^

While reading these posts I feel like I am in the middle of the book the "Emperor with No Clothes".

So many people are talking about Lalaitul Quadr as being on a specific night this year. I am even getting e-mails of reminders for a particular night.

Was there a news flash- or at least an update/change to the hadith that it is one of the last ten odd nights of Ramadan?

Is there a correlation of the 27th night and Lalait ul Qadr?

Assalamu alaikum
Kathy, yes, the Prophet (S) told us to watch for in in the last ten days, but a lot of people believe it's the 27th because there are many things that point to it (but I don't know what they are, maybe someone else knows and could tell us).  So a lot of people single that night out for qiyam all night and for praying a lot.  But you're absolutely right, the extra qiyam and praying should be for all 10 nights.  wallahu a'lam

Standing room only, almost literally.  That's how it was on the 27th night.  And ma sha Allah people just kept streaming in and streaming in.  I didn't think the masjid could hold them all.  It was raining so people couldn't pray out in the courtyard.  Subhan Allah we all somehow fit in.  I was thinking, al hamdu lillah that taraweeh are mostly standing!! :)  For the first 8 rak'as, there was no room for me to make ruku', and I was making sujood most of the time on the feet of the person in front of me, completely folded over.  I had about 5 inches in front of my knees to put my head on.
Then after the 8 rak'as a lot of people left, and some spaces opened up.
I didn't know if they were going to finish the Qur'an at that time or in the morning.  We started at Surat Al Jumu'a.  When we reached the end of Juz' Tabarak, the imam made takbeer  again and i knew we were going to finish the Qur'an.
It's the first time I've been at the masjid for the khitam of the Qur'an.
Al hamdu lillah I was so grateful to be able to do it.  There was a really beautiful du'a after surat Annas and before ruku'.  Almost all the women were in tears, and I imagine the men were as well.
We prayed from 7 to 11.  Al hamdu lillah.  I've never prayed for that long at one time.  There were no pauses between the sets of rak'as.  Al hamdu lillah the Imam had a beautiful recitation.  It was just wonderful.  I didn't feel it was laylatul qadr though.

We started taraweeh at 8:15 and finished around 9:30, after which imam gave a talk on the virtues of lailat ul-qadr.  Then the chai was served with sweets, so we got our snack on :) After that some went home, and other stayed.  At midnight imam led zikr, for two hours we did tasbih.  It was beautiful, the masjid was packed to capacity. After this we took another chai break, then at 2:30 AM we prayed salatul tasbih, then at 3:30 we did qiyam ul-lail and finally the duah and witr.
Scholars say that among the signs of lailat ul-qadr is that it rains lightly and there is a gentle breeze blowing...based on this I think it was either on the 21 or 23rd night..but Allahu alim and inshaallah I hope we were able to catch it

Salam,

Subhan Allah,
I also felt it was on the 21st or 23rd..It was raining here on the 21st night..I'm not sure about the 23rd. But it was not cold out at all which is odd for us(This time of year we should be getting snow ..which we finally got last night). I was talking to a friend who did itikaaf for all ten days, masha-Allah, and she also told me that she felt that Laylat ul Qadr fell on the 21st or 23rd.

Something I've been thinking about...

Do you guys think or know if Laylatul-Qadr is on the same night every year (i.e. the 21, 23, 25, etc). Or do you think it's different each year?

Lets say it was the 21st this year does that mean every year it's the 21st--or is that something we can't know and just have to strive and hope to have caught it?

Anyways, I hope everyone has a blessed Eid inshaAllah :)

On the subject of Lailut ul Qadr and weather, wouldn't the weather be different on the same night in different parts of the world? I mean in say Saudi Arabia it could be a cool night with a gentle breeze, but in Europe most likely there would be rain this time of the year and in other parts further north, bitter coldness. Over here it was freezing :(
The weather in the southern hemisphere would also be different. Or maybe this weather phenomenon is only related to the hijaz?
