How we all mutliplied...

asalaamu alaikum,

Whenever this argument comes up, I always try to defend for the better, but its tough to say sometimes;

When Adam AS and Hawa were around, how exactly were they propogated into thousands of people?

Was incest playing a part here?

Was it the result of numerous inbreedings?

Of course, a Christian viewpoint that I heard that this was true was not so readily accepted by me... until of course I know what Allah SWT and His Messenger SAW have to say about it...

As well,

I argued that while we hear about the first two humans created, I had never heard that they were the ONLY two, we just assume so...

were they the ONLY two humans created?  I  mean, that would settled the aforementioned question.  If they weren't the only two, or were they the only two people to ever have been created? asalaamu alaikum. abdullah,.

My understanding is that "incest" was allowed at that time because there was no other way.  I heard a khateeb once saying that in Ibn Kathir, there is the tafseer of the two sons of Adam.  One of the reasons that one of them was jealous was that the sister he married was not as pretty as the one his brother married.

And Allah knows best.

As salamu alaykum

Imam Ibn Kathir's Stories of the Prophet's talks about Abel and Cain.  Both had twin sisters.  When the time came Allah (swt) revealed to Adam that he should marry each son to the twin sister of the other.  Cain was displeased with the twin sister chosen for him, for Abel's twin-sister was not as beautiful as his own. ...........
Thus Cain killed Abel.

This is just a summary of the story.

As has been already been related by the mufassireen, it is said that the two brothers were to marry the twin sister of the other. This was permissible according to the "Shari'ah" at the time of Adam AS.

While the aqeedah has always been universal and unchanging since the beginning of revelation with all the Prophets, the Shari'ah for each Prophet was often different. For example, the Shari'ah of Yaqub AS allowed for men prostrating to the other. With the later Prophets, and of course with the final and comprehensive Shar'iah of Prophet Muhammad[saw], this is no longer permissible. So to with the marrying within the immediate family of Adam AS.

Their aqeedah was the same, but their Shari'ah had differences from the final one which exists in the final revelation through Rasulallah[saw]. Therefore when we reflect on the stories of the past Prophets and learn from them, we must remember to take this into account.

And Allah knows best...

[slm],

One word of caution here about asking questions for the sake of asking. Any question asked by a muslim must have some purpose behind it. We should not ask questions that really have no bearing on anything. Didn't Rasul Allah (saw) warn us about asking questions like the children of Israel? So beware of misguidance after Allah has guided us. If a non-muslim asked you such questions then you should ask them what benefit is to be derived from it?  If they can not answer then the matter should not be discussed further.
