How many of you put Hina on your hands for Eid?
Does anyone have simple Mehindi/Hina design ? If Hina cone is not available, how do you put it? I am thinking of using a q-tip .

Every year I mix hina one night before Eid to put on  but by the time I am done with all the cooking for Eid,cleaning and changing diapers etc etc I am too tired to put Mehindi . But this year Inshallah I plan to definitely put some on. Also my kids have volunteer to make design on my hands – they are pretty excited about it !!. One of them is thinking of making a Tonka truck and other one is thinking of making an airplane :). So Inshallah on Eid day I will have some fancy design on both my hands :) !!

I know EXACTLY how that feels...not having the time or the energy for that matter to apply the mehendi.  And what happens if you do apply it and the kids wake up for a feed or something at night %)  You end up with a very pale orange "pattern" of sorts on your hand...that's what!!  :)

By the way...does someone know how to get the nails nice and DARK...I have never succeeded with nice red/maroon/dark dark nails :-)

i love henna..

walikumas'salaam warahmatullah ;-D

i don't have a family to take care of, or a lot of food to cook..so i don't have the same problems as u guys..tq..that's cute..tonka ;-D don't use a qtip! that'll come out too fat..maybe u can make a cone urself? with like a ziploc bag?

as far as gettin the color to be dark on ur hands..all ima say is: VICKS VAPOR RUB..that works miracles..:) once the henna itself is dry, leaving the dry bit on ur hands doesn't help the coloring afterwards..:) once ur henna is totally dry..RUB it off..don't use water..! it takes away from the color..then rub a bit of VICKS VAPOR RUB on ur hands..don't stink up ur hands though ;) leave that on for like 15/20 minutes..and go to sleep :) inshAllah, in the morning, ur henna will be rockin ;-D

Mehdni! yaay, what a nice topic and sucha Eid topic too! :)

qtip- yeh i think i will come out too thick and you don't want that, princess's idea of using a zip lock bag was a good idea, just put it all in a corner and then cut it VERY tiny...also, when i was younger, my khala used to use a toothpick to put mehdni on us, so that works as well :)

But awwww!! your sons are soo cute with their ideas, truck and airplane! mashaAllah that's just adorable! i wish i could see how your hands turned out in the end ;) kids are just cutie patuties! i could gobble them up ;p

For making your mehndi turn out dark- VAPOR RUB?! whoa man, i've NEVER heard of that before...this is what i've heard and have done myself...

if you want your mehndi dark, the longer it stays on, the darker it becomes...

also, while you have it on, it begins to peel, right?! so you should take some water, lemon juice and sugar...it makes kinda like this watery/sticky covering to put on top of your mehndi, it gives it some more moisture and then it allows it stick more :)

also, this is what the professional lady told me when she put mehndi on me for this wedding...you know what you take? you take....oohhhh my...i don't even know what it's called? it is like this short brownish/blackish thingy and it has four, i think four, clovers sticking from it? and you put it in rice and it kinda has this strong smell? you know, i have to ask my mom what it is and then post it, but anyway, you take like a couple of what i'm talking about and put it in a pot and let it heat and put your hands above the pot and let the heat from those clover thingys to get on your hands :)

also, when you want to was your hands, don't completely wash it off, like scrape it off so you can do things, but don't scrape it off completely, it makes it darker with those little scraps and stuff...

Last point- once you take it off completely, put baby oil on your hands and i gurauntee you that by morning, it should be dark, inshaAllah!

Vapor Rub- i'm gonna try that out :) i'll let you know how it goes princess dear, hehe!

Happy Mehdni'ing!!! :)

Take Care

as-salaam alaikum:)

This is how i usually do my mehndi!
I make the mixture with lemom and tea (if i can i leave the mixture for a few hour, over night if i feel like it).
After applyin the mehndi i leave it to dry then i wet the mehndi with sugar mixed into water (makes it a lil sticky)!!! After doin this a few times u can crumble the mehndi off ur hands (do not wash ur hands yet). Rub dat stuff ppl eat with paan or supari-lime stone-(calcium carbonate)! do not leave it on for too long though:) wash it off...and there u go, should be dark:)

...I'm gonna try the vick one though:) tonite

take care

<><> Assalamualaikum wrt wbk Everyone :o) <><>

ahhHhHHhh, inshaAllah sometime tonight, amidst the time I dont have, I'm going to sit down and put some mehndi on as well.

Someone mentioned heating some cloves, and then waving your hands above the cloves in order to have your mehndi's color come out darker, I've tried it, it works! However, you have to be really really careful not to burn your hands!!

So, I've never really used the toothpick method, normally I have cones, and end up using those, i heard someone use cake decorating bags/w/tips once as well, the really really really really really fine tips so that the mehndi doesnt come out too thick

has anyone used the mehndi stamp/sponge thing that's come out? does the mehndi pattern come out clear and neatly?

ok! statistics exam, gotta go,

Eid Mubarak Everyone

Jazak Allah for all those wonderful tips.  After all that wonderful dreaming and planning of wonderful red nails though, I never even got the chance to put the mehndi!! :)

I will MOST definatly try SOOOOOON.

Well actually on the night before Eid I did mix the hina(as usual )  but when my kids wanted to put it on my hands I wasn’t  done with chores. By the time I was, as usual I was tired and just wanted to sleep :).
But my kids did put it on after we came back from Eid prayers. They both took one hand each and I gave them q-tips(I love my kids but I thought giving  them tooth pick might be dangerous for me :)). They did try to draw something but in the end made just one big circle (sort of). They were very happy that I let them do this!
The color did come up OK considering that I had it only for 1-2 hours.
Inshallah when my kids will grow up and I will have time then I will try all these tips – vicks and the cloves one(I did this one for hina on my wedding, many many years ago ! )
