slm,

Is there such a thing?? An organization that is run by muslim girls/women for muslim girls/women to foster sisterhood and teach leadership skills to young women??

I've noticed,W'Allahu A'lam, that there's a lack of bonding between sisters that transcends ethnic and class lines in the muslim community as well as visible female role models that our younger generation can look upto.

What are your thoughts on this??

i totally agree! We should have somthing like this
i have been vey lucky that althrough my life my mom has surrounded me with iolder muslim girls that she felt could positivly affect my life..i had so many "older sisters"...she now pushes me to do the same because i have benifited so much from the community and should do the same for other sisters........however if we had a forum like girl scouts of BigSisters that would be soo cool (ditto for the guys my brother wants to be a BigBrother....)
...oh to answer ur ?? i have never heard of something like this is my muslim community :(

Yes there is one in London :) Its a real scout group but for muslims, they go camping, have badges, learn quran and everything! :-)
But its for 4-16year olds. I am two years too old :(

Assalamualaikum wrt wbk :o)

We have a Muslim girl scouts troop here in CT as well. They meet periodically, organize ifthars, go on trips during the summer, etc etc etc etc. It's made up of little 7ish year olds, such cuties mashaAllah! I wish they had had something of the sort when I was younger!! I feel like I missed out on that entire experience...

I think we need an organization that caters to all age levels, school age, college students, working women, and house wives.

An organization with the following objectives:

1-Impart islamic knowledge to reconnect sisters with their heritage drawing from examples like Khadhija and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with them.

2-Provide *hands-on* da'wah training. I believe this is an area where we lack the most eventhough one of the biggest misconceptions about islam,if not THE biggest, is the status of women.

3-Career counseling for working sisters.

4-Education assistance. This can be in the form of mentoring or fundraising contributions towards a scholarship for a muslim sister in need.

5-Leadership skills development.

6-Provide an avenue for sisters from all ethnic backgrounds to meet and build strong bonds of sisterhood.

Maybe, i should have chosen a different title for the thread.
In fact i'm going to change it to W.S.P (Women of the Straight Path).

Also a type of place for sisters to go if they are getting abused.  This is an issue that is very sadly overlooked in the Muslim community today.

On a 2nd note: Something like this would be truly wonderful.  The community I live in is very segregated by choice.  The imam has been working so hard to try to bring the community back or closer together!!!  It is also a very small community that cannot afford to be "split" (only around 2000 muslims including children)

I have such a hard time when I go to the Masjid for iftars and such, because the ladies all sit in groups according to their ethnicity, me being a revert, I don't find I fit very well anywhere (of course this is also because of the language barrier)  Also there is no ladies Haliqa (sorry I think I spelt this wrong) in my community, so Alhumdulillah my husband is very good about teaching me or showing me where to find more information about Islam.

Women are the glue that holds the ummah together so if we could get ourselves stronger, I do believe the Ummah would be much stronger
