| Asalamu Alaikum, A Dawah Committee has just been formed on our campus and I'm trying to think up some new things we could do. | slm yep.. some ideas we implemented in our msa here in nj, - Islam 101 class for non muslims, includes personal invitation to every faculty member and students, cool flyers - dawah table but adorned by whyislam stuff brochures, free quran and books also, not just brochures. you need brochures ? email me - key is flyers for any event of information, if the flyer is attractive people will be attracted! - put information flyers on islam in the student center at the main information desk!! - dawah table should be topic oriented, like women, and other issues - co-sponsor the islam 101 class with the history dept in ur skool for students to get extra credit when they attend - design your MSA website for dawah purpose specifically and provide links and then drive ppl to ur website by advertising it extensively!! - i wud say again , the publicity is key!! more ideas, email me..:) salams ahmer |

Asalamu Alykum, SubhanAllah, Just adding to brother Ahmer's list. Our MSA is trying to do " A taste of Islam" event for Eid. Where Muslims of different backgoungs will bring desserts and we are inviting everyone on campus, the event will also include include an EID MUBARAK banner in the main area and flyersb all around campus. The purpose of the event is to educate people about Islam in general and also, Eid. Another thing that we are working on is A forum on Muslim women, focusing on the myths and sterotypes that surround Muslims Women. InshaAllah, bringing some educated Muslim women and sisters on campus to talk about being a Muslim Woman in America. Also possibly showing "hijab and act of faith" and having a follow up day after, asking the women in the audience to wear hijab for a day. May Allah reward all you are doing..!! as for co-sponsoring an event.. actually we took lead from an MSA experience sometimes back at stevens.. they invited dr. mukhtar maghrouvi for islam 101 classes and it became so popular that they got it acredited from the school.. which meant that people taking the class actually got credits at the end of semester towards their degree program. But this can't be implemented right away. First you have to show your school that a lot of people are attending the class and it is popular.. work towards holding an islam 101 class this semester and insha'Allah next semester you can get it acredited.. normally classes on islamic and african history can get acredition from the history department. wlm ahmer |

My campus has lots of Muslims on it (Alhamdulilah) but this makes it harder to get non-Muslims involved because Islam is not as foreign to them...so if anyone has any really different ideas, please post! some more ideas... - definitely do something next week for hajj.. put hajj, malcolm x brochures on dawah table.. get a frame that student centers normally have and put on it the malcolm x quote about hajj.. check out http://www.malcolm-x.org for more info - prepare informational flyers on hajj and put in on student center info desk.. it's pretty easy..:) - you can also arrange a small pictorial exhibition of hajj.. ppl are intrigued really when they see these pictures and this can drive them to ask questions which is always good.. | Asalaamu alaikum, hey some wonderful ideas :) I find food is an excellent way of attracting people. We held an informal video evening at our mosque on campus and we invited our non-muslim friends along to it. We showed The Message and started and finished with salaat. It went over two evenings and on the second evening we arranged a pot-luck dinner where everyone brought along something. We had so much wonderful food from so many different parts of the world....i guess through the food, we showed how we're united in our diversity. It was a big hit with everyone involved. We also had the Discover Islam posters up around the place for the people to read. wasalaam, Ahmed |

| We are planning to show 'The Message' at our school, but its kinda long and I don't think our organizer wants to be so long, it'll have to be over two nights, or maybe we can have an intermission which we can also explain the movie some. How would we advertise for that on campus? Everyone ignores the flyers around usually.We need something special, I can't think of what. Any idears? I'm thinking of having food and pamplets on a table right outside the screening area an hour or so before it starts. |

| Assalamu'alaikum :-) How about highlighting the more famous actors like Anthony Quinn etc? And if the movie won any awards you can highlight them as well, inshaALlah? Also, you can have a mini-Quiz after the movie, and highlight the prizes in the flyers. Like draw 5 lucky winners, and they can answer some easy quick answers. You can get sponsorship from the local bookshop (Muslim or otherwise). Maybe you can collaborate with the Oriental Studies department to publicise the event? OK, this may be a bit far off... but Maybe, you can get some brothers to do an act from the scene? Create a scene and get them attracted? All the best! InshaAllah! Allahua'lam :-) |

we showed the same movie in the last islam awareness week, and yes it is hard to attract people, but more attractive the flyer the more people you get..!! |

| Good ideas! I think I'll try to get some large color prints of the movie. But why would a bookstore sponsor us? The quiz idea is good, I don't know exactly what the prizes would/should be though. |

I think it'll be easier if you go to a Muslim bookstore, for inshaALlah, they would be able to understand us and da'wah better. Negotiate something that would be win-win situation for both sides. For example, the bookstore may sponsor part 1 of a set of tape series, and offer a discount on the other parts. Of course, go for a better deal like gift vouchers or books and omplete sets of tapes etc. You're giving him more customers, and doing lots of promotion for him if he sponsors, inshaAllah.
