Hania ,,for some reason i thought you were American..

Jannah British Slang with a American accent?,, hmmmmmmmmmmm....
I think its best that you stick to the arabic,, any how Jannah,, Advice from me,,,
When i went there I first started staying amoung British/Americans, but I noticed I was learning very little Arabic, then I changed dormateries and started saying amoung turks, russians, chinese etc, and I was learning a whole lot more cause the only common language between us was Arabic.
You can have the same effect if you speak to your friends in Arabic.
Its hard at first but it gets easyer.

Yikes! Jehad isn't that 'c' word offensive?

I'm pretty sure if you went down to China Town and repeated it you wouldn't come back in one piece.

Will have none of that slang, its the Queens English that you must learn like On yer bike mate, sounds better and is more posh. ;).

as salaamu alaykum,

Yes, that is very offensive.  The only reason it hasn't been automatically censored on the board is because it's a word that has multiple uses.

You know, I've actually been taught that you shouldn't even *refer* to a person's ethnicity or physical appearance unless it's necessary to describe the person in order to identify them.

Anyone know more about that?

Hmmmmmmmmm I think people are getting too much in to this political correctness stuff. I have used that word in loads more of my post hair. I use non politically correct words all the time, people don't mind. Who cares, Its what you are saying that people care about not the words you use.

Assalamu'alaikum :-)

People, do take concern to the words we choose to say and in addition to that, the manner and way we speak to them.

Words have conotations which in turns colour communication and our treatment to each other, akhi. Needless to say, that would give rise to different reactions. Coz, the words that one uses, reflects on what one is saying.

Even to those who are against Islam, we are advised to say words of peace... I think our friends and people in general deserves more than that.

"For, (true) servants of the Most Gracious are they who walk gently on earth, and who, whenever the foolish address them (with the aim to ridicule them or to argue against their beliefs), reply (words of) peace." Surah Al-Furqan: 63

Allahu a'lam :-)
