Eid Goodies

Salam,

It's Eid!! Time to load up on the goodies and gain all of the weight lost in Ramadan (what weight lost?).^_~

So what kind of goodies do you make especially for the occasion of Eid?

In many Egyptian households the following are a tradition:

Kahk al Eid (date cookies)
Araeesh (biscuits made with yansoon (english: Anis)
Almond cookies sprinkled with icing sugar.

When I was young my Mom used to make huge batches of kahk and araeesh, almost a large box full, and distribute them at the Eid prayer. These days though, she doesn't have enough time and energy so she makes just enough for our family and a few close friends.

Sometimes we make Kunafa and Atayf (patties stuffed with nuts and soaked with honey syrup) but these are more of a Ramadan
tradition.

salam &
EID MUBARAK

Salaams and Eid Mubarak!!

Y'know, when you go to the Eid Prayer, you end up saying the same thing over and over again:

"SALAAMAKUM!! EID MUBARAK! HOW ARE YOU! I'M FINE ALHAMDULLILLAH!!! OH MY GOD YOU LOOK SOOOOO NICE....KAY TALK TO YOU LATER..."

and again to another person:

"SALAAMAKUM!! EID MUBARAK! HOW ARE YOU! I'M FINE ALHAMDULLILLAH!!! OH MY GOD YOU LOOK SOOOOO NICE....KAY TALK TO YOU LATER..."

and so on...

Anyways at my house (and i swear at nearly every other desi house)
there is always Saviyah (Vermicilli cooked in milk) and Haleem (ohhhhh that is soooo good. Some sort of a meat dish), Biryani and Pilau and LOADS of Gulab Jamun (some sort of ball thang). And of course you get variations every year.

Kay, salaams and love to y'all.

Aisha
