A Good Tea Blend??

Assalaamu'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

I really love Shay (tea) I was taught this trick: if you wanna make a lot of tea. Use your coffee perculator (coffee pot) (if you have one) in the filter part put one of those lil paper thingies, place three bags of lipton tea (decaf or regular), a lil scoop of mint tea leaves, and 1-2 tsp of cardamom. Fill the pot with water and pour it into the back like you would regularly. Thats it, instant quick tea!!

Perfect if hubby has friends over~ ;) ;)

Once done, I add hazelnut liquid creamer and sugar and oooooooo sooo good!!!

Anyone else have other good tea blends???

I prefer tea with boiled milk.  So here's what we do at home :-

boil the water, when it is REALLY bubbling, pour in milk the ratio is 2 thirds water and 1 third milk ;)

when the milk begins to boil, drop in a couple of tea bags - strength of tea depends on the brand you use...I like Five Roses.

If preferred, you can stir in the sugar at this point if everyone in the family has the same sweetness levels ;)

Cooked Chaai! yummy.

"Cooked Chaai! yummy.  "
It is also called "Dood patti" where Dood = milk, patti=tea

There is another brand "Tetley " and if you like your tea strong like us then use 2 teabags for one cup. When water boils , add the teabags and let the kettle on stove at simmer for couple of minutes .

I also love hazelnut milk in my tea .

tq

My favorite is the boiled tea as well.  My "recipe" is this

(Enough for 4 cups)
Boil the water with cardamom (5 split), cloves (6 or 7 depending on the freshness of the cloves) and a cinnoman(sp) stick.  I like to use a very big pot, cause I like to boil it for a long time to really get the flavor from the spices.  Then I add the milk (2/3 water - 1/3 milk).  I just bring this to almost a boil but not quite. (I add the sugar when it is just for my husband and I, but if I am making it for company I don't add the sugar)

While this is preparing I have a tea pot filled with very hot water.  When the water mixture is almost done, I dump out the water and add 2 tablespoons of Lipton (egyptian brand) loose leaf tea.  Then I add the water mixture and let this sit in the tea pot for at least 5 minutes.

Then I strain each cup as I pour it, making sure to return any stuff back to the tea pot if it is not emptied on that serving.

Another helpful hint is that if you are having company, prepare everything the same way, but have a couple of caraf's (thermoses) instead of the tea pot and put the tea in there.  This way you are not stuck over the stove and can visit.  The tea stays nice and hot too.

I like green tea or qahwa, we drink that 24-7 in the sarhad area and of course in afghanistan. I like it even more than coffee. You buy them in packets and follow the directions. ;)

Now I don't know much about tea, i like coffee.
Here's one way to make it.

make coffee the regular way. and then add some ice cream in about 2 tablespoons. i like coffee ice cream or caramel icecream. I buy this german brand of icecream that I don't know how to spell.

yeah and like don't go putting mint falvored ice cream in you coffee and then blame me for it! use your common sense. :)

the taste is incredible, it's smooth and creamy. and no need to add the sugar cuz there's some already in the ice cream unless you like your coffee really sweet. :)

and one thing with dudh patti that works is if you put in ilayichi. gosh what do you call that in english? anyways, makes a very fine subtle difference. You don't want to put in too many or else it will taste gross. :)

Ilyahchi is called cardamon seed (i believe) in english.  I don't drink tea or coffee.  But I guess the British know all about this stuff. :)

Bismillah and salam,

When I had my herb garden I liked to make lemon balm let it boil alot in the water and then add a few mint leaves for the last few minutes. It was so soothing masha'Allah.

I like the taste of a nice cup of the almost aristocratically named, Earl Grey tea. This black tea has a wonderful aroma and gets its elusive flavour from oil of Bergamot.

Named after Charles Grey, the second earl in his line and also Prime Minister to King William IV in the early 19th century, the recipe is said to have been given to him by a Chinese mandarin with whom he was friends.

I like Lyons Tea from Ireland. So much so that whenever anyone visits they have to bring me a packet with them. This time I forgot to tell my mother to bring some so she's going to post it!
When we run out we buy PG Tips from the local Indian/Pakistani store. The tea on sale here in Germany is very weak. They drink it black with lemon. I like my tea a bit stronger with milk.

My husband likes chai. Using very little water..boil the water with the teabag(s) and illachy, when the water is practically all evaporated then add the milk. bring to the boil, add sugar, and simmer gently for about 5 minutes. I like it too, but generally only with pakora or mithai. When I make tea and toast for example then it has to be "my" tea.

The secret to making a good cuppa no matter what kind of tea you're using is to get the ratio of tea to milk correct.

Let me illustrate ;-)

If you like strong tea, then obviously you need to let the tea brew for longer but you have to compensate for this by adding more milk to your tea.

The stronger the tea the more milk you have to put into it.

Conversely, if you like weaker tea, you need to cut down on the milk added.

My advice is to use the same type of mug each time so you know how much milk to add given the time you have left the tea to brew.

Perfect results every time ;-)

I agree 1000% !! :)

My Mum likes really weak tea so I use the same teabag for us both. My sister's husband once described *her* tea as a cup of hot water with a teabag waved around it for a few seconds...

I luv my tea. Better any day than coffee. But only when made at home. It never seems to taste the same at a restaurant.

;-) do you use a teapot at all, or do you use the *real* thing, ie tea leaves?
I remember once I knitted a tea-cosy ;-D

Br. Kashif sure knows his tea! :)

I can't go thru the day without my 2-3 cuppas, but nothing fancy, just plain "Red label" with little sugar and milk.

Here's a tip for when u're having a cold. Make some tea with ginger in it. Just add about an inch piece to the boiling water along with black tea leaves/bag. This reaaaally helps relieve sore throat and stuffy nose.

I had been thinking about that since Kashif posted his post.  You can see it in the way that he describes the richness and experience of tea drinking.  And furthermore he goes on to describe the history of the particular brand of tea that he prefers.  He could probably write a whole essay on tea drinking. ;)

It doesn't get any more British then this.

Really though, the tea is very nice. I like the Twinings brand which comes in a posh looking packet with a painting of an 18/19th century fellow drinking his tea in true British upper-class manner. And i just now found out that there is a 'Lady Grey' version of the tea too! Lighter than Earl Grey with a twist of citrus.

When he had time, my father used to make us tea with tea leaves but unfortunately I haven't got the patience so its a simple tea bag for me!

We have Twinings brand here in India too. But the tea is from Assam, east of India. Yes, Twinings tastes good. Our office  also provides the same brand. Infact, i'm drinking one now :)

assalamu alaikum,

I could not resist not writing in this thread...

I agree that Earl Grey is my current favourite tea because of its fragrant flavour. I am not usually a tea drinker, more of a coffee addict actually. But due to some concern over my caffeine consumption and some pressure and threats from my family, I am trying reduce my coffee drinking by slowly subbing it with cuppa.

In our palestinian tea recipes, we don't add milk. Usually, we use regular tea (orange pekoe i think) and seep in few leaves of fresh mint (dried mint works too). It is sooo refreshing and soothing after a meal.  Althernatively, we may add some dried sage instead of the mint in the tea pot.  Try it, it is sooo good.

wassalam
