The complete idiot's guide to Understanding Islam

I just recently bought this book called "The Complete Iditot's Guide to Understanding Islam" and it's pretty well written! It's one of the books in the "idiot series". It's by a muslim author too (Yahya Emerick) which should add to its credibility. It explains things in a detailed, yet easy to understand way and is very current. It even talks about the Buddha statues that were destroyed in Afghanistan. It has cute little things in the sidebar called "Ask the Imam" where common questions are asked, and "It is written" where they have quotes from the Quran and other books. I would recommend it to anyone who has no previous knowledge of Islam and also to people who have been Muslims all their life. Very user friendly. I learned a lot from the book :)

May Allah reward him for his efforts :)

There seems to be some really good reviews on Amazon.com about this book, as well there are a lot..

Even thought I've been Muslim for a while, I still like and need to read books like this  :D

I've enjoyed brother Yahiya Emericks articles and books in the path.  He really has a way with writing, and I've had some correspondence with him in the past.  Jannah and Se7en saw him one year at an ISNA convention.

As salamu alaykum

By any chance do you sisters know the titles of these books on architecture?  My husband is studying architecture and I'm sure that he would love a book about Islamic architecture.  Jazakum Allah Khair.

Salaamualaikum,

I, too, would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether you are a non-Muslim learning about Islam, a Muslim wanting to gift a non-Muslim with a book about Islam, or you are a well-read Muslim.  I learned some interesting stuff reading it so far.  I've still got a little more than half way to go.  It's hard to put down when you start reading it.

I went to Yahiya Emerick's site and clicked on a link from his web site.

I'd get the exact info for you  but right now I am tuned into se7en's radio show and real player and am afraid to click over....

I got brave- it is thru amazon

Assalamualaikum Marcie and all!!

The two books I was referring to earlier are named

1) ISLAM: Volume 1 ~ Early Architecture From Baghdad to Cordoba

and

2) The Art of Islam

I bought them from Borders, I'm sure you can find them on Amazon.

Take care,
