As Salamu Alayka,

alhamdulillah,

*Insha'Allah, I will post the referrence and text for the hadith mentioned*

I heard a hadith that spoke about how the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa salam, and Abu Bakr as Saddiqi, radiallahu anhu, were sitting among some others.  This particular occassion the others were speaking ill of Abu Bakr, radiallahu anhu, and all the while the Prophet, salallahu alyhi wa salam, and Abu Bakr, RA, were quite.  When at last one of the people said something quite atrocious, and Abu Bakr, RA, began to defend himself against the implications and accusations.  The Prophet, SAW, rose and left at that time, and when Abu Bakr, RA, noticed the Prophet, SAW, leave, he too dismissed himself and sought out the Prophet, SAW.  Abu Bakr, RA, asked the Rasulullah, SAW, why, when he was silent while the others were attacking him, the Prophet, SAWS, remained with him, but when he tryed to defend himself, the Prophet, SAWS, left him.  The Prophet, SAWS, told Abu Bakr, RA, that when he was silent, the maala'ikat themselves were defending his honor, but once he began to argue with and defend himself to the others, shaytan came and sat amongst them, and the Prophet, SAWS, did not take company with Shaytan.

Some say that the best defense is a good offense, well this hadith, whether sahih, or weak, regardless, lays down a good point about the most rewarding action being no defense at all- at least when it comes to arguing with others about baseless accusations, and attacks upon anothers dignity and actions.

I could not say that anyone since his time has matched the generosity and loyalty that Abu Bakr, RA, had.  He, RA, enjoyed a very close position in the company of the Prophet, SAWS, once which anyone of us of the later generations could only dream to have. I could not be sure that in my silence in the face of accusations and attacks that any maala'ikat would defend me, insha'Allah, and chances are if others really knew some of the things that are hidden in my heart, from the past, or that will be done, the comments may not be so baseless after all.  But all Muslims deserve the benefit of the doubt.  Not the harm of possible implications.

Regards,

QAK

I have heard the hadith mentioned before, I am not sure of its classification, but its a good reminder, alhumdullilah.

I agree all Muslims deserve the benifit of doubt and not the harm of possible implications.  From what I know of you, I know you mean well, alhumdullilah.
