help me find a new name
Saleema

I used mujahida for some time but then we had two mujahid's join the board and I didn't feel unique anymore. Now I use Shawar but that sounds a lot like Shalwar.

I can't think of anything???
Suggestions welcome

LOOOL@sounding like shalwar...actually, this is really bad, but we know this aunty who's name is Shahwar and we used to call her Aunty Shalwar...i *know* that was soo rude of us! but we were young, now we've matured and know not to make fun of anyone's name :)

hmm you want a new user name...how about...eh, i don't know...i need to think of a new one for myself, why would i give my ideas to you! huh huh? hehe just kidding...seriously, i don't know, i was trying to think of a name that could have been derived from Saleema, but couldn't come up with anything...Sorry!

Take Care!

I like Fadillah --> I think that's an educated and learned woman and something else to do with Allah SWT right? asalamu alaikum. abdullah,.

Personally I think Saleema is such a pretty name. To me it sounds sweet yet strong. What does it mean?

Why not keep that one?

Yes, Saleema is my real name. but i want to use something fun.

It means someone who's 'saved' from hell fire. and some have told me it means 'peace'.

Cara, just to add some more to what Saleema said on the word salim, the feminine being saleema, to get the idea of the richness behind the word...

Allah says in the the Qur'an, Surah as-Shu'araa (Surah 26), verse 89:

"And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;
The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,
But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a qalb salim(sound heart)"

There was an article I found which comments on this, which you may find interesting, here are some excerpts:

...The verb from which the word qalb is derived also means 'to turn' (yan qalibu). The heart can turn in many directions. In whichever direction it turns the body will follow, for as al-Ghazali (d. 1111) – the celebrated medieval theologian and logician – remarked of the heart, 'it is the king who is obediently followed by the other limbs; if the king is upright and good then his servants will be likewise'.(7)

In Arabic, one who is sound and healthy is said to be salim. Classical Arabic dictionaries define salim as 'the one who has been stung or bitten by a snake'.(8) In pre-Islamic Arabia, the snakebite was considered to be a good omen, indicating future well being. With the arrival of Islam the meaning of salim evolved. Muslims began to see a healthy state, or the state of being salim, as one in which a person can see the will of Allah even in times of adversity and tribulation - being bitten by a desert snake was but one example of such an affliction.

The salim will therefore not see illness as punishments, but rather as 'tests' from Allah; these tests afford the opportunity to deal with many of the ills of the heart– the diseases of material attachment and the associated tendency to forget Allah, for example...

...In Semitic languages, words are generally derived from a three-lettered root term. A number of related words stem from this same root, and an appreciation of these derivatives helps in developing a fuller understanding of the concept being considered. Salim then is derived from the root S-L-M; other derivatives of this term include salama (safety), salaam (the Muslim greeting of peace), Islam (the way of peace) and Muslim (one who has voluntarily surrendered his will to the Divine will, and so is in a state of peace). A qalb salim, or healthy heart, when considered in its fullest sense, is an organ that is whole, sound, content and at peace, directing the rest of the body in the pursuit of good, where good is defined as following of Sacred Law. Since this is the path that leads back to the Ancestral Home there can be no higher good...

...An Arab maxim teaches that to understand a particular notion one must understand its antithesis. If a healthy heart leads towards eternity, the diseased heart (qalb marid) is preoccupied with the temporal, content in self-gratification, self-indulgence and a disregard for Sacred Law. One with a diseased heart will thus neither be able to contextualise illness nor know how to conduct himself in such a situation. Despair, discontentment and dissatisfaction with Allah's plan characterises an unsound heart in such situations. Many of the psychological problems that plague today's world, stress, anxiety and depression to mention but a few, reflect the improvised condition of modern man.(12) In his arrogance he fails to recognise the very essence of being, and is as a result deprived of any inward sustenance...

May we all stand before Allah on the Day of Judgement with a qalb salim

And Allah knows best...

Salaam Cara :)
Yeah you should definately visit Pakistan its a great place to see with some breathtaking scenery.

http://www.pakistanpage.net/gallery/main/

Up north there are the spectacular snowpasses and snow-capped mountains and the beautiful Hunza Valley. Believe me, during spring the valleys' terraced fields are something one cannot miss. They are bursting with ripe green grass and plants of every colour imaginable. Its like stepping into heaven. These marvels of Gods creation will leave you speachless.

However when in Pakistan do watch out for those snipers, they can ruin a perfectly good day ;-D  And don't stand next to fruit baskets especially those with mangoes in them, cows and goats parked suspiciously. They have a nasty tendancy to explode in the heat of the rush hour. ;) ;-D

Please do not use Tiddleywinks :) Thats a game played by old people or under fives here in britain where they just flick different coloured tiny counters in a tin.

After reading your posts I get the impression you are firm and strong in your views and not afraid to express what you believe, so I thought maybe you could use one of the 99 names of Allah.

Al- Mateen = The Firm One

Al- Qawi = The Most Strong

Or change the S to an H and be called:
Haleema =Gentle, patient, mild-tempered ;)

Bro. Hanif, which group were you trying to associate yourself with?
How about you Saleema?

Sis Pinky? No way, that's such a silly name and so girlish in a princess way. :) Haleema--that's too similar to Saleema. And that would be an insult to the name Haleema if i took that anyway. cuz first i have to incorporate all those things in me first, inshallah. That's why i think i want to go to new york and go to that retreat with the albanian mafia. I think it will soften me up inshallah.

I want something unique. Bhaloo i guess I am now trying to associate with kids under the age of 5. ;)

Hania, isn't Al-Qawi like a masculine name? I'm a girl. :) Is there a feminine form for this name?
