Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

This year those nice people at the Madina have let me and Br Abdul Basir loose on the Road to Makkah forum. ;-)

We aim to provide you with our own all-you-ever-need-to-know guide to Hajj and its our sincere intention that over the next few weeks we are able to share the experiences we have both encountered during our visits to the Holy Cities and, insha Allah, provide those of you who want to find out more about Hajj with the information you need.

InshaAllah, to this end both Br Abdul Basir and I will be posting several articles and anecdotes over the following weeks covering the following areas:

So we have to wait till February 11th before we can ask questions? :(

You know important stuff such as:

- Which hotels to stay at?
- Which travel agency to use?
- How do brothers wear the sheet without it falling off?
- What sandals do you recommend for the dessert terrain?
- Where to shop?
- How are the restrooms?
- How much walking is there?
- Is there a quick 1 week program, so one can minimize time away from work?
- Some deals say 4 people in a room, who are these other people?
- How do you stay cool in the heat?
- Money belts are recommended?
- How much money should I bring along?
- How can the elderly get along, are there people there to carry them?
- What about people with health problems, such as asthma and diabetes?
- What if you get lost?
- Will there be other jannah.org people there?
- Can I get by on English?
- What about Urdu?
- What about the way I speak Urdu?
- What are the timings for events during the day?
- What products from the US should I bring with me?
- What about transportation?
- How about tipping?

Just a few of the questions I have. :D

I think this is a pretty good site also.

Also, last year, Jannah did a pretty good project and put it up on the web when she went during Ramadan for Umrah.

Finally, this forum is back, the way it should be, the way it should always be, because the road to Makkah is a journey that one is on for their entire life.

jannah, this forum will miss you...last year only you and ;-) (that's BrKhalid for those of you who didn't know) were posting...

you are right, we are trying to live it via the message board...so that we can get even more nostalgic and enhance the pain of separation from the Haram even more...it's amazing what a person will do to try to keep the experience of the Hajj and Umrah alive in the heart...and as we've quoted in this forum last year, the old Arab proverb which says, "Before you visit Makkah, it beckons to you, after you visit Makkah, it calls to you forever."

anyways, maashallah bhaloo for all your questions...did you just think of all of those off the top of your head? I'm sure these questions will be answered in their due time :)
Will there be other jannah.org people there?
Sr. Mariam has already stated that she is going, and I'm sure there are a few others out there in the Madina going as well, so the answer to the question is yes!

Assalmamu alaikum,
I can try to answer a few questions insha Allah since we've been asking them as well:
First though, check out http://www.adafol.com/mabrur/ It's a travel agency but you can at least get an idea about lots of stuff from them.

And here's the answers that I have:

-I think for the hotels; it depends on the travel agency you're going with.
-Same with the length of time you spend there.  We also have to have an "express hajj".  You'd have to go in the last few days, and not spend the 10 days of dhul-hijja there though.  And Madina IS optional, but who could go all the way there and not go to Madina?? Our travel agent goes to Makkah first while ppl are still passionate about hajj cause he said ppl get caught up in the dunya in Madina :(
-For elderly ppl, they have wheelchairs now (at least they did this year in Umra according to a friend of ours).
-For the 4 bdr places, you can either arrange w/ ppl you know (recommended) or you get boarded up with ppl you don't know who are in the group that goes with the travel agency.
-there's hundreds of hospitals and little emergency setups and little clinics and stuff.
-you could probably get along in English cause that's the 2nd language there.
-I don't know if money belts are recommended, but it's definately NOT recommended to take any money in any container to the haram cuz some people are just there to steal :(  they said this in their own video.  I know of someone who had a money belt on, and he was swept up by the crowd at some point and by the time he was back on his feet he had no money belt!
-The other stuff probably depends once again on the travel agent (transportation, daily program, walking etc)  I know though that sometimes it's faster to walk than to take a bus because the roads are so crowded and there's so many ppl walking that the bus has to go at their pace.
-I think brothers can use safety pins for their Ihram.  Am I right?
-how to stay cool in the heat: You should see this promotional video!  they have this things that give off mist ALL over the place so that you're never too hot, and the harams are airconditioned.  I don't know about Arafah though.  Ithink they only have the mist things there :)

As salmu alaykum,

I just read Brother Haniff's post, which is a brother's diary of his hajj.  I was taught that when you finish Umra the person that trims your hair should no longer be in a state of Ihram.  This brother cut his father's hair while still in a state of Ihram.  Are there different opinions regarding this matter?  Jazakum Allah Khair.

As a student of Islam, I have not so far come across any evidence  suggesting that a person cutting the hair of another pilgrim should have first freed himself of the state of Ihram. Therefore, I am inclined to think that the action of this brother is correct. Insha Allah, I will change my view if someone furnishes me with authentic proof in support of what Marcie has been taught.
