assalaamu alaykum
After the events on 911 I have been approached by numerous people at work and asked for the Quran. I have complied with their requests to the best of my ability but I wanted to know, what is the Islamic ruling on how to give Quran's to non-muslims. Should I tell them to make Wudu? Where to read it? Etc...please let me know what the Quran, Hadith, and scholars have to say about this.

If the QUran contains stuff other than the Quran, for example an ENGLISH translation, it is ok to give it to non muslims.  The proof of this is that when the Prophet (SAW) sent letters to the non muslim leaders, he would start them with Bismillairahmniraheem, which is part of the Quran.

As Salamu Alayka,

To be the safest I would give them an English translation alone, no Arabic.   Besides the Arabic would be meaningless to them, and if they decide to put in on the floor in the closet next to their shoes, or use it as a coaster, then no harm, no foul.

Scholars would probably differ on what exactly constitutes a transgression in regards to Quranic text in Arabic mixed with English, or significant amounts of tafsir, etc, and the proper adab or respect.

So, to keep yourself in the clear, and to facilitate the exposure you are trying to offer, I would seek out small, paperback, translations without any Arabic.

Better safe than sorry.

Regards,

QAK
