First off, the movie is not about Muhammad Ali's life story.  It focuses on the time period in which he became an international icon:  From the time he beat Sonny Liston in 1964 to become the heavyweight champion, until the rumble in the jungle in 1973.  It also does not outwardly portray his coming to Islam, instead it presents the influences that shaped him:  the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X, his family, and of course his famous weakness for women.

I thought Will Smith did an excellent job.  Especially the scenes dealing with the Vietnam controversy and also the training in Zaire for the fight against Foreman.  These are some powerful scenes with a lot of symbolism behind them.

The movie is about 3 hours long, and thankfully there are only a couple of love scenes (nothing graphic) and not too much cursing (compared to the average movie that is).  I highly reccomend it.
