Anyone know why a man can't marry his wife's sister? What's the reasoning behind it?

Thanks,

As Salamu Alayka,

Masha'Allah, the Jews were visited by many fitnahs on account of their asking questions regarding the commands of Allah SWT.  Truly the most successful among the Muslims are those who say "We hear and we obey."

Vain am I to think that I could understand a bit of the infinite wisdom behind the laws and commandments of Allah SWT.

Alhamdulillah, if I am not mistaken, it is permissable for a man to marry his ex-wife's sister, but not his wife's sister, because this is his sister too by marriage!

I am sure this is a Q & A issue discussed in more detail and certainty, insha'Allah I will find you the evidence or other opinion if contrary.  Or someone else will correct me insha'Allah.

Regards,

QAK

Assalamo elikuim
A man can marry his ex-wife sister or if his wife is dead then can marry her sister but cannot have real sisters as wives at the same time.
I am sure there must be a wisdom behind it, personally i think the reason could be jealously between the sisters if both are married to same person ?
Also FYI wife sister is not mehram to a man and also husband's brother is not mehram to a woman. But only father-in-law and mother-in-law becomes mehram to daughter-in-law and son-in-law repectively.
