| Can someone explain to me why the bad feelings betwen India and Pakistan? I have no idea or understanding of this and wish to learn. Can someone please give me a history lesson? Suggest reading material? Thank You |

| asalaamu alaikum, sister Caraj, I have one very serious suggestion for you when you venture into this issue which has a myriad of opinion surrounding it: Make sure you get a balanced opinion of what's going on; find sources for all perspectives then judge; to tell you the truth, on this issue I find Western media is more reliable, since it is sort of detached to the whole situation (some will disagree) I find that there are a few sides here (again, all just opinions of various people, please don't respond to the opinion you disagree with here): They are that: 1) India should prevail as a hindu nation and that Pakistan is really Indian land "stolen and divided" by Brits and/or muslims and exclusivized for muslims 2) Pakistan should be the muslim nation where the muslims live and India can be for the hindus; Paksitan is completely justified in its existence and is necessary 3) This whole division is the fault of the British raj before 1947 4) India and Pakistan should both be run as muslim countries 5) India is a nation for all people, for all religions and that the land simply runs by majority, be they hindu or muslim, or sikh, or jain or christian 6) Pakistan is an exclusivist state (ie. muslim-only) 7) India and Pakistan should run as and how they are and people should be given the choice where and how they want to live 8) Either both or one of the two countries needs to change its laws and structure to better benefit either everyone or a certain group of people 9) Either one or the other is an antagonist and bully Now, the Kashmir issue is responsible for 2 of 3 wars between the two countries... Kashmir is a northern province that is the only muslim majority state and there is much debate and opinion a to what is to become of it... currently, India has the majority of the province. Some different views: 1) Kashmir should go to Pakistan as a muslim province and the jihad there is legitimate and the sufferring real as well 2) That there is a "fake jihad" (armed struggle in this case) run by political leaders to bolster separation 3) that the Indian Army is oppressive and oppresing the muslims there wrongly, and that Indian government rigs elections there 4) That Pakistan is fighting a "proxy war" by sending guerillas to fight in Kasmhir 5) That Kashmir should be granted independance from both Pakistan and India as both countries have their own selfish interests at heart 6) The people their should be allowed to vote and decide their future and granted autonomy at their will 7) Kashmir is an Indian province that is legally India's, and should stay in India and unrest should stop 8) Pakistan wants Kashmir to boost its power over India One thing I do know is that whether muslim or hindu, I have heard all these opinions from both sides... its tough to say whether its propaganda or righteousness.., one thing I do know is that Kashmir was a beautiful tourist area and now its been spoiled by bloodshed. Learn the facts and decide for yourself. Objectivity is the important thing here. Too often, the Indians side with India, and Paksitanis with Pakistan's interest, and we quickly assume that as muslims the muslim in the situation is always right no matter what. Its tough to say, others will settle their opinion quite firmly. My views are actually crossed over a bit and not completely accepted by most people in either side of the issues, so I've learned to keep mum on them and just present all sides. asalaamu alaikum. abdullah,. |

| Thank You both bhaloo and Anik. And Anik I have no desire to judge only learn and be more informed and I thank you. I am going to make a request of anyone visiting and responding to this thread. PLEASE do not get mad or offended or put down anothers replies. I am looking only for ideas,facts,articals, dates and such to learn and educate myself. bhaloo and Anik have both set a wonderful starting example of educating me I ask all who respond to follow their example in this thread.
