Ya Muslimah:

We heard you weeping in the depths
Of the night
Calling to the ONE who
wraps us all with infinite cloaks of
respite

The darkness of your Kohl
Hides floodgates of tears
As you continue
Journeying
Paths jagged with
Scathing rocks
Grass patches growing
Amidst blood drops

In a world of show and
Tell,
Who is weaving your
Tale Ya Muslimah?

In different shades
You come so beautifully adorned
Spirits shining
This world has never been your
Home
It’s Aisha’s valor that keeps your
Spirit fighting for life,
When you were stoned, belittled,
And chastised for being upright.

Khadija’s nobility focuses
Your vision on heights
Elevating your men
While solidifying your own rights

Its within the gentleness
Of Fatimah
You learn the subtleties
Of light
The Rasul remains your
Soul’s only delight

Behind veils no one sees your
Tears
In the darkest of nights
It is only HE Who Hears.

Of gun shots, scattered dreams,
Of death and blood streams…
Nurturing children amidst
Societies screams
Loving fathers even when
They turn obscene
Holding life together
With tattered seams

In a world of show and
Tell,
Who is weaving your
Tale Ya Muslimah?

We come together
Sharing gracefully
Rainbows of the
Sweetest delight
Soft whispers of praises
Escaping sighs
Knowing in Allah’s light
We are freed from the shackles
Of this hide

Forever remain true Ya Muslimah
In a world of
Show and tell
You dwell in the rhythmic silence
Of Knowing
And within that peace
May your essence
eternally reside
(Amin).
