For all of you who have had to cook for picky kids, be they offspring, siblings, or someone else's:

I need recipes for a picky 1 year old who is allergic to milk protein.  I have tried everything I can think of, and I only have found three or four combos she will eat.  So, any and all suggestions for me to try would be welcome!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Dawn,

I don't have any recipes for you.  No kids as of yet, but insha'allah one day.  Have you tried Rice Milk instead?   :-/ ;)  Just a thought.

Wa'alaikum Assalaam

When I was younger I had an allergy to every kind of dairy products. I couldnt eat cheese, drink milk, or even have a lot of chocolate. Alhumdulilah when I grew up my Asthma matured and now I can have cheese and what not. What trigers my asthma is running w/out using my inhaler and taking breaks often.

What my mom bought me instead of regular milk, or lactaid, or rice milk (because I couldnt stand the taste) as Vitamite. It very delicious and even my husband who was raised on cows milk like the taste too. It doesnt taste like soy or water. It taste good at least to me and of course it worth a try. I still drink it because I cant stand regular, 2% or lowgat regular milk, since all my life I never drank it.

Its a bit expensive but well worth it especially since its good for her.
Here is the link to the website so you can know what it looks like:

Also for cheese I had a cheese called Smart Beat and for Sour Cream I had a product called IMO, they have different flavors. So if you can find these things you can really be creative.

They still make these products because I see them everytime I go to the store and now they are starting to make more varities.

InshaAllah I hope this helps

My youngest son was born severely allergic to all formulas, even the soy-based ones, and a slimy one called Nutramagen :'( .   A pharmacist friend of a friend told her to have me try goat's milk. We did, and it solved all the problems we had after about 2 bottles worth. We (I say "we" because the family was eating together) used goat's milk for 18 months before my son outgrew his problems. We got used to the flavor in macaroni & cheese so much, that when we no longer had to use it, nothing tasted as good- no flavor :P ! Perhaps a trial of the goar's milk would show a benefit?
Good luck with your child :) !!

Thanks all for you your suggestions.  To add another kink to things, the doctor is now not sure whether it is milk protein or not which is causing the reactions.  We took her off all milk products for two weeks, things got better, and then two days ago, she had another reaction.  So, either she is alergic to milk protein AND something else, or it wasn't the milk protein in the first place.  So we will probably have to do the skin tests, even though the doctor didn't want to do this earlier due to her age.  Oh well.  We will figure it out sooner or later!

Peace,
Dawn
