| what does idhin mean? I know yawm means day, and I've seen the word together in the Qur'an, but is idhin a adjective put with yawm? |

In Arabic, noun modifiers/qualifiers are not written as seperate words but are appended to the noun itself. We need more people to post the references to the words. | Salam Alaikum. I cant arabic but I can read quran. I just ask and want learn, it is the same yawma'idhin in suratul Fateeha?If yes were not better to write as so YAWM'IDDIN. This letter A after M will be read too and DH by IDHIN sounds than like when we say WALAD DHALLIN or like ZA Wassalamu Alaikum |

Can you explain a bit more? I guess you are now disqualfied from taking any Quran word quiz :) Isra, no it is not the same as yawmiddeen, which means the Day of Judgement/Recompense, etc. Wasalaam. |

| Assalaamu alaikum, I think you are referring to this ayah of soorah Takaathur thumma latus'alunna yawma'idhin 3anin na3eem Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!). Yes, the word in this ayah is yawma'idhin, the same word given in the first post. I think you are mixing up the letters. In the transliteration, we use dh = dhaal, d = daal, D = Daad, z = zaay. Wasalaam. |

| [slm] Hmm ... I don't know about 'harf zamaan' and all that business :) I was thinking that the 'idhin' part means 'when.' It's like the normal word in Arabic for 'when' (idh, or idhaa -- whenever). I guess 'idh' becomes 'idhin' at the end of 'yawm.' So yawm or al-yawm would be 'day' or 'the day.' yawma'idhin would be "a day when ...." Allahu a'lam. |
