[slm]
Alhamdullilah I am taking an Islam class on campus this semester and I am blessed to see all my fav sisters twice a week  ;D Some of us make it point to pray together and few sisters have alhamdullilah recently started praying regularly and ask a lot of questions  :) So the other day one of the sisters was praying and suddenly remembered that she didn't wipe over her socks and went back to make wudu. I tagged along her and she only wiped over her socks, however, I had asked my older sister once and she told me that if one's wudu gets invalidated you have to make it all over again. So i sometimes have delayed reactions and realized that something went wrong after like 4 mins :(.. At that time she was in the middle of her prayers and by they time she was done , i forgot.. Now the thing is how do I tell her and well i want to be 100 % sure that I am right.. help..

An incident not identical, but somehow similar:

Question:

After praying, a person discovers some impermeable substance, such as wax, on his hands or feet – what should he do in this case? Also, does one have to repeat wudoo’ if one cuts one’s nails?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

It is obligatory to wash all the parts of the body that are specified for washing in wudoo’, in obedience to the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! When you intend to offer al-salaat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows…” [al-Maa’idah 5:6], and following the example and teaching of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) recorded in the saheeh ahaadeeth, which describe the parts of the body to be washed in wudoo’. If, after praying, a person finds something on these parts of his body that prevented water from reaching them, then he must remove it and repeat his wudoo’ and prayer.

As far as cutting the nails is concerned, this does not mean that one has to repeat wudoo’, and in fact doing so is not encouraged.

And yet anotherone:

Question:

Sometimes it so happens that I forget whether I have wiped over my head or not, and I am not sure one way or the other. Should I do wudoo’ all over again?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

If this uncertainty come after you have finished doing wudoo’, then do not pay any attention to it. If it happens before you finish, for example, being unsure whether you have wiped over your head and you are washing your feet, then you can wipe over your head and wash your feet. There is no hardship involved in doing that. This is if you are not  suffering from a lot of insinuating doubts. If you are faced with a lot of insinuating doubts, then you should not pay any attention to that, and you should proceed from the point at which you are now. So if you are washing your feet then you may assume that you have wiped over your head. The same applies to all other stages of wudoo’.

Hope it helps, inshaAllah.

[slm] I believe the ruling is that if you did not finish the wudhu' and the water on your body has not dried from the parts already washed for wudhu', or it usually would not have evaporated in the time frame from the time last washed until the wudhu' is completed, but dried due to any reason such as excessive wind, or a towel, then you can carry on and finish without repeating the wudhu'.  If however, the water from the washed parts has dried in a normal way, in a normal time frame, then the wudhu' must be started over.
I apologize for not giving the daleel. I am looking for it, and will insha' Allah post it when I find it.  www.islam-qa.com is down right now.

Al-hamdu lillah, I found a fatwah that pretty much covers the subject of dry limbs if there was an interruption in wudhu'.
Here it is (from www.islam-qa.com):
Question:

If during wudu'ablution), one finds dirt stuck on his fingers, does working on removing the dirt by scrubbing it off disrupt the continuity of the wudu' and require repeating it?

Answer:

Continuity would not disrupted by such action (according to the most viable opinion) even if his body had dried, because he was delayed due to an action required for his purity. The same is true if he were to move from one faucet to another in search of water.

However, if continuity were disrupted due to an action not related to his , like removing impurity from his clothes, eating or drinking and the like, and the limbs became dry, then he needs to repeat the wudu'.1

From the book What Should You Do in the Following Situations... ?
