[slm]  :-)'s and possibly the odd  ;-)   ;)

Hope u r all in the best of health and eeman.

Just a quick question which i suppose relates to sister Hijabi's question on Hijab.

What is the awrah of a Muslim woman in front of other muslim women and also non-muslim women?
..And also what is the awrah of a woman in front of her mahrams?

Any input is welcome  :)

Jazak Allah Khairun in advance

assalamu alaikum,

If memory serves me right ( & you should double check from a book of fiqh or with a learned person), a woman's awrah infront of mahrem men and other women is the same as that of a man (i.e. area bounded by naval and knees).  I think , non-muslim women are included in the general definition of 'other women ', but again double check with different resources, as this might be a point of difference among different scholars.

In all cases however, if suspecion of indiscretion on the part of the accompanying women or mahrem men arises(i.e. that they go and describe her characteristics to other non-mahrems, or the mahrem men display perverse behaviour toward her),  the awrah becomes everything except hands and face - I think.

Wallahu alam.
take care,
wassalam

ok here goes:

in front of muslim women:
       - she can show anything except from the navel to the knee, she is allowed to show her breasts due to breast feeding only

in front of non muslim women:
       - this is a very debatable topic, some scholars say yes becuase they are women and some say no because the non muslim women may speak to non mahrem men of the muslimahs hair....

in front of non mehram
        - nothing must show except hand and face

in front of mehram men -
        - they may see anything except after the age of seven.  after that she must cover herself, not full hijab, but enough so that the private parts arent showing, she may show her hair.

in front of doctors -
        -  becuase of the sisters health, it is ok for her to show herself in front of non mehram men doctors IF this is the only person she can get.

May Allah(SWT) forgive me if i said anything wrong.

just wanted to add that the husband (a mehram) may see his wife fully uncovered, but blood relatives, such as father, brother is not the case.

Assalamu'alaikum :-)

Just a 'lil something :)
just wanted to add that the husband (a mehram) may see his wife fully uncovered
Our husband is not our mahram. Mahrams are men who are haram, for us to marry, like our dad, son, brother, uncle, granddad.. and the list goes on.

Since our husband is the person whom we marry, then, he is not our mahram. Instead, he becomes our wali. And only he has a special status such that only he is the only one in the whole wide world who can see us totally uncovered (and so can he to us).

Not all mahrams are our wali, and not all walis are our mahrams.

Hmm, hope i'm not being confusing, inshaAllah :)

Take care all :)
