i was with some brothers last night and we were talking about tiramisu, does anyone know how to make it without the alcohol? They add rum in it ugh yuck.

For those who don't know what tiramisu is, it's an italian sweet dish, tiramisu cakes/ice cream rock, i had some tiramisu cake in Egypt but i forgot to ask whoever made it how they made it.

There is this persian bakery that sells tiramitsu, and they told me they used no alcohol while making it.  It definitely rocks. :)  Its pretty close to where I am.

Where do you live?  When I lived in Germany you could buy Marscapone (spelling) and the directions were on the inside of the lid.  All that you do is omit the alcohol and it tastes fine al hamdu lillah.

I remember sister Mona had posted a recipe for Tiramisu without alcohol on the old board. You can probably search for it there, or if she is around maybe she can post again  :)

Tiramisu has to be the easiest thing to make! You need sponge fingers, cold black coffee, and sugar and cream whipped with mascarpone, which is an Italian cream cheese. Usually the rum is added to the coffee but it tastes just as yummy (if not yummier!!) without it!

What you do basically is have your coffee in a bowl and taking one sponge finger at a time, dip it into the coffee and lay in in the tray/tin where you make your tiramisu. This is the bottom layer. Then on top of that you spread your whipped cream/mascarpone/sugar mixture. This mixture has to be whipped *really* stiff so the tiramisu doesn't fall apart when you cut it.
Then you just repeat the process. Layer the sponge fingers dipped in coffee on top of the cream layer and then put another layer of cream on the top. Then using a sieve, sieve some cocoa powder over the top of the last layer of cream...et voila!! Tiramisu is finished.
Put it in the fridge for a couple of hours so it can set, and then it's ready to eat!! yum yum!! :P

here's a recipe I found on the web. It's a bit more specific as regards measurements etc, so if you are following it, just leave out the alcohol. Believe me, it tastes just as good!!

Tiramisu
sent to my yahoogroup by a sister

Ingredients
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup strong coffee
8 oz. mascarpone cheese or cream cheese, softened
1 frozen Sara Lee Pound Cake (16 oz.), cut into 18 slices
2 cups whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder

In medium saucepan, combine eggs, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup coffee. Using a wire whisk, beat egg mixture over medium-low heat 3-5 minutes until mixture is frothy and thickened; let cool. In small cup, combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup coffee. In medium bowl, combine mascarpone cheese and egg mixture; beat with electric mixer until smooth.

Lay 9 slices pound cake on bottom of 11 1/2x8-inch pan. Brush with half of the coffee mixture. Spoon cheese mixture over cake and place remaining cake slices on top; brush with remaining coffee mixture. In medium bowl, beat whipping cream and powdered sugar with electric mixture until soft peaks form; spread over cake and sprinkle with cocoa. Refrigerate 3-4 hours. Serves 12.

InshaAllah you enjoy it :)
