| 'Father should complement Mother' ------------------------------------------- Her Highness Jawaher on the Father's role in building the family structure Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has lamented the "receding role of the father" in UAE society, and urged parents to share the responsibility of bringing up their children. She was speaking at the opening of the Second Family Meeting, which began here yesterday under the banner "Father's role in building the family structure". Sheikha Jawaher observed that a father's long absence from home was often attributed to work. Often, however, fathers exclude their families from their personal entertainment plans. She noted that the continuous absence of the father would soon make him lose control over his children and expose them to deviation. She stressed that the roles of mothers and fathers should compliment each other to achieve equilibrium in the family. "Fatherhood is not in any way less important than motherhood," she added. Sheikha Jawaher recited a saying by the Caliph, Omar bin Al Khattab, who urged parents to be kind to their children if they wanted to earn their love and respect. She asked: "Why do we always complain about the children's ingratitude, when we do not try to give them the affection they need and instill in them the values of mercy and care." She pointed to the Sharjah Ruler's words in his meeting with the members of the Supreme Family Council. He expressed the hope of seeing all fathers taking their children to school to realize their responsibility and strengthen ties with them.
