ALIM is dedicated to empowering Muslims through education.  ALIM provides substantive knowledge in all relevant aspects of Islamic Sciences but goes beyond these basic building blocks and teaches critical thinking intertwined with the elements of true Muslim character as applied to these subjects. This leads to basic Islamic Literacy which allows for the development of empowered Muslims through meaningful discourse and true intellectual and spiritual development.

No!  :-)

It's actually divided very equally - about 25 brothers and 25 sisters get in.

wasalaamu alaykum :)

as salaamu alaykum,

Hmm.. I think the program is intended for people in college, or people around that age.  I was the youngest participant in the program the year that I attended (16), and there were also some brothers/sisters in their late 20's.

Ayesha Z, that's awesome  ;D

salaamz guys!

man, i really want to go!  :( but my mom is always like why do u have to go away... u just looking for excuses to get away from home...
and its really depressing cuz i feel like its such a great oppurtunity to go learn sumthng and then when college starts ill be stuck on campus... and if i dont build momentum up during the summer i know im not going to be ready for college.
and its so hard to talk to my mom she starts yelling about all these other things and its like my message gets lost somewhere inbetween.  >:( and then i get loud.. and then its like this is stupid im being bad to my mom just so i can go to a *islamic* retreat...
what is a girl to do ::)
inshallah.. she usually lets me go after alot of hassling. hopefully ima just keep my cool and shell come thru.
masalaam

he he I thought i wrote this post for a while :).. I have been through the sammmmeeeee situation. But trust me , I think college is the BEST time to grow in your deen. You haveeee sooo many opportunities to learn, for example GET INVOLVED IN YOUR MSA ASAP or if you don't have one than form an MSA... you can dooo sooooo many activities , like halaqa's , stick with MUslimaHs.. I personally sometimes feel that I am on a Muslim campus cause I am always surrounded by Muslim people. Alhamdullilah, its a beautiful feeling.. Ummm and if you are going to a university that has a good Muslim population than you are all set inshaAllah. However, the first thing you should do is check there MSA , a place to pray and see what kinda activities they do. InshaAllah once you go to college you will get more active, however, the key is to find Muslims and just stay around them.. You need a community!!!!!  Also college doesn't mean that you can't learn in summers, usually there are 2 sessions in the summer semester.  Choose one and for the other one plan to go to an Islamic retreat or summer camp or sumthing... when I was in highschool my parents didn't like the idea of me staying somewhere far awayyyy... However, once college started and they saw ahem how responsible I was and it was like subhanAllah I could go anywhere.. They trust my judement now...  So my point is your parents will be more comfortable once you get a lil older. However, if they are not comfortable about you going out of state or city than get involved in local events. Hang out with sisters whoooo knowww a lot he he..
inshaAllah I hope everything works out for you and our parents always think the best for us...
JazakumAllahu Khair  :-) :-X  :-* :)
