Event Overview
The Educational Retreat is geared to be an intensive learning experience with some of the most distinguished academic scholars in the country. While there will be time for recreation and leisure, the primary focus of the retreat will be the lectures and presentations. MSG has carefully selected these scholars for their expertise, scholarship, and ability to effectively communicate the material. The retreat will focus on (1) the history of Muslims in the Americas, (2) cognate values and vision common to both the Islamic and American traditions, and (3) the challenges confronting the Muslim community as it attempts to appropriate an identity and paradigm unique to its realities in America. MSG is anticipating 90 to 100 participants from across the country.

What is Muslim Support Group?
Muslim Support Group (MSG) is a non-profit (Texas 501(c)(3)) educational organization based in Houston, Texas. It aims to increase the Muslim community's literacy of Islam and its cognate disciplines.  MSG is dedicated to elucidating the noble teachings of Islam, its tradition, sacred law, development, and cultural ethos. Since its inception over six years ago, MSG has provided forums for scholars from across the country by organizing seminars, classes, dinners, dialogues, and retreats. In the past we have invited such scholars as Dr. Abd al Hakim Jackson, Dr. Muneer Fareed, Dr. Khaled Abou el Fadl, Dr. Muhammad Nur Abdullah, Dr. Mokhtar Maghraoui, and Dr. Sulayman Nyang, Dr. Jamal Badawi, to name a few. With these endeavors it hopes to illustrate the common values that are at the apex of both the Islamic and American traditions. It is by presenting such platforms and scholarship that Muslims and non-Muslims may become literate of Islam's rich tradition and heritage.
