For those who don't celebrate birthdays...

What do you do when family or friends invite you for their kids b-day parties? ???

I don't have kids yet, so I have not been directly affected by the problem.  I have Muslims friends who celebrate their children's birthdays and others who don't.  Recently a friend was over who does not celebrate birthdays.  Her son got up on my kitchen table and blew out the candle and said that it was his birthday.

If your kids know that they are invited to a birthday party and can't go then maybe you should think of a fun activity to do instead so that they do not feel like they are missing out on something.  Another thought is to have a surahs party for you own children.  Once your child has memorized so many surahs have a party to celebrate that fact.  I know that some might not agree with this, but it is tough raising kids here and always saying no to them.  I would hate for my child to grow up feeling that Islam was only a bunch of restrictions.  authubillah

I am weaning Ali from them. I do wish I had never allowed them in the beginning.

I had the typical birthday parties for him until 5.  He knows now that we do not celebrate them in a party atmosphere.

However we do aknowledge his and thank Allah for him coming into this world and Insha Allah making a difference.

I continue to let him go to other kids parties. Chuck E Cheese, McDonalds, Bowling type parties.  I am not saying this is right-just what my comfort level is.

Babysteps....
