[slm] :o gasp! - Don't be silly- I am too old.... :P Zak , the puppet, wasn't really mine. It belonged to my neice. It is time for me to get my own. His arrival date is on Wednesday. :-[So gang help me give him a name. ;-)I use him for mainly Dawah and Islamic presentations in schools and churches. So I need a name that is recognizable to both cultures. ;DZack/Zachariya was a good choice- but there can only be one Zach- Any suggestions? :-) |

Does it have to be a boy?? you can name it Sarah :-) But I see no harm with choosing a muslim name for the doll - if for nothing else, then just to get those school kids used to hearing muslim names and associating it with something good/familiar. I dunno, you could try Ayman - it is easy enough to pronounce. |

[slm] The puppet is a boy. Adam is the SoundVision Puppet- and there can only be one Adam! You are on the right track. |

Sammy is a common name in both cultures. The only other names I can think of that are not exactly pronounced the same but kinda sound the same are Yusef/Joseph; Ibrahim/Abraham; Jibreel/Gabriel; Mickael/Michael-let us know what you decide :-) |

Assalamu'alaikum :) How about cute short names that are easy to pronounce? Afif - purity (or something like that) - I always associate this name with a cute boy with fat chubby cheeks. Dan - from Danial (a prophet) Alif - a letter from the Arabic Alphabet Jim - a letter from the Arabic Alphabet Zamzam - cutey, eh? ;) Wafi - what does this mean again, Solehah? I mean... UmmWafi? I think it's got the same root word as Afif - purity? Isa Hadi Hud Aman - Aspiration/ ambition/ desire Salam Ahad hmm, I'll post if I can think of more, inshaALlah. Wassalam! :-) |

[slm] ;-)I am thinking of Abdullah- Servant of Allah (for dawah puposes)- Then I would get to explain his name. I like the idea of a Muslim name- I almost want to stay away from an Arab name- because I want to stress that Islam isn't just of Arabs. However- it got a cold response when I asked my christian family last night, perhaps as a result of Nation of Islam. |

Salaam Wafi means sincere and truthful. I think same root word as Aufa Wallahualam. Kathy how about these names : Salaam (near to Shalom so its recognisable and it means peace from root word aslam) Deen - then u can explain what Deen is in Islam Thats my two cents worth (plus inflation heh heh) Wassalam. |

Assalamu alaikum, What about Omar? I don't think that there's an English equivalent for this name, but it will probably be familiar to most of the audience. wassalam, Leslie |

[slm] :ozikes! This is too hard! :-[Contending- Yusef, Abdullah, Deen- yet I am still undecided... I want the name to mean something like friend , servant, worshipper, spokesman, devoted. ;)Love Zamzam- but going to save it for a toddler puppet! :-XI am going thru a baby book of names! Got me thinking. If you could change your name- what would you change it to and why? :-) |
