| http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2228-2002Mar9.html Why do we only see graphic footage of Palestinian "terror" attacks??? As biased as the western media is, even they cannot ignore the ruthless killing of the Israeli war machine. Fellow muslims, how do you deal with this frustration? Due to their suffering, I feel a constant low-level of chronic depression. How do you deal with it? Of course, I make du'a for them, but only prayers (w/o any action) does not seem to be helping. May Allah make it easy for the oppressed around the world (Amin). |

| it is like Al Jazeera not showing the Bin Laden interview, they only show you what they want you to see. Actually, although I did not watch a lot of news this weekend( it was in the 80's a great weekend to be outdoors) but I did see one shot of palestinian and one shot of israelis being killed, did not notice what TV station I was watching though. But, I don not feel anyone feels that "their" side is being covered correctly. I know my liberal friends feel that way and conservative also, christians feel they get short shrift also. |

| Salaams, Im sure my Brit brothers ans sisters can help me here. On the train here we have this freebie paper called 'The Metro'. This paper is nothing short of a propaganda tool for the agents of Zionism. Nearly every killing of Israel is glorifed saying inciting strong hatred and emotions for example, how they smiled, how they wept, how the lovers died etc etc. Don't get me wrong I agree innocents should never be killed but what about the Palestinians, when the women folk have to deliever babies by the checkpoints, what about the mass arrests without trial, what about the illegal occupation of the land, what about the state sponsered killings ? Just this weekend has been the bloodiest ever in the Mid East, yet these people still do not uderstand that the Palestinians are humans as well they are not flies that you can swat away with. Every picture this paper carries it is either one where it promotes the terrorist activities of a state which sponsors killings and freely welcomes land grabbing or a picture of the Palestinian flys being swatted sorry humans being killed who suprisingly are the new terrorists as this paper calls. There was once a time called free reporting but sadly now it seems the media is the biggest propaganda tool. salaams Hanif |

| assalaamu alaikum BroHanif, now that you point it out i do agree with you. Did you see today's front page? That huge picture of the two killed Israelis who were planning to marry? I'm sad for them and their families, but is it only the Jews who deserve sympathy, although they kill three times as many people as have their own killed? And on another note, have you noticed how they always have a page devoted to some person telling how lovely the London Underground is? Who would bet against LU forcing 'The Metro' to include this in return for permission to distribute this on their network? *smile* But back to the question posed in the initial post. What stops me from falling into chronic depression are the words of Allah & His Messenger `alaihis-salaatu was-salaam. When we feel a harm we accept it because this is what we have been told would happen to us: "Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere" [Qur'an 2:155] And even in our (seeming) misfortunes we know that there is a long term benefit for us - by the Mercy of Allah. Allah informs us in the Qur'an that some days our ummah will have the upper hand, and on other days it will be other nations. You can't feel depressed - this is Allah's Plan and His Decree unfolding... i can't feel bad about that! *smile* If one falls into depression, a consequential negative effect is that you will become paralysed islamically - you'll stop doing things to try and change the situation we find ourselves in. We're not a nation of despair. We're a nation of hope - hope in the Victory of Allah. Allah & His Messenger have assured it to this ummah and by necessity it will come to pass. It may come at our hands or the hands of our children, or those of later times, but come it will. Perhaps the feeling of depression can also come from short-sightedness and a lack of patience on our part. If you know any reverts you'll probably know that their decision to accept Islam isn't a snap-decision; its one that involves thinking and reflection, and patience and effort to be expended by those who are teaching them - and this can last months or even a year. Thus, if you don't expect one person to change overnight, how can we expect that the entire population of the Earth will adopt a more noble path in a short time? Its going to take years, it might even take decades. The most arrogant person to rule on Earth was the Pharaoh of Egypt, but his plan was upended when Allah sent Moses peace be upon him. And for every Pharaoh there will be a Moses. There will be a person or people who will nullify the plan of President Bush. And just making du'a isn't the answer.. there has to be something practical to go with it. Self-purification and teaching the Message of Islam is part of the answer. Kashif Wa Salaam |

| they showed it after CNN televized it. They sued Cnn because CNN showed it. At the time CNN showed it, AL Jazeera press release said it was not up to their literary standards. Also, does anyone watch CNN? They are in huge trouble i heard. |
