The IBN AJURRUM ARABIC INTENSIVE SUMMER Program
1423/2002
to be held in Hayward, CA, at Zaytuna Institute

All praise is due to Allah, and May His Peace and
Blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad and upon his
family, and his companions and all those who follow
his way until the Day of Judgement, Ameen.

The Ibn Ajurrum Arabic Intensive Summer Program will
take place in Hayward, California from July 1, 2002 to
July 25, 2002, for a total of 24 teaching days at the
Zaytuna Institute facility in Hayward. Applications
are open from March 1, 2002 until April 27, 2002 to
both brothers and sisters.

The Ibn Ajurrum Program is sponsored by Deen Intensive
Inc. (www.deen-intensive.com).

"WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?" The scholars of Arabic Grammar
tell us that this science is studied for two main
reasons: to rectify one's tongue and free it from
errors of speech, and to be able to understand the
revelation of Allah and the teachings of our beloved
Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace. They also
tell us that it is the most honourable science for
three reasons: that it is the language of Allah's
book, that it is the language of our beloved
Messenger, and that it is the language of Paradise.
Arabic was once, not long ago, the lingua franca of
the Muslim world. Princes from Egypt, pottery-makers
from Yemen and merchants from India could meet and
converse with each other with similar grounding in the
Sacred sciences of Islam in the language of our
Tradition. With the rapid advent of globalization, we
are now living in a world in which at least one
language is being lost every week. It is the very
least hope of this program that it will serve to -- if
not learn immediately -- at least instill an
appreciation, a passion and a love for this language
that is so lacking in the Ummah today, particularly in
the West.

THE TEACHERS The teachers for the program are being
finalized. The finalized list should be available
shortly.

THE SITE The program will be held on the grounds of
the Zaytuna Institute in Hayward, California.
Accommodation and food information is detailed below.
Hayward is a city in what is known as the Bay Area of
California. Students will be expected to arrange their
own transportation from their point of origin to one
of the following airports: San Jose International
Airport, San Francisco International Airport, or
Oakland International Airport. The program volunteers
will arrange for pickup and drop-off from one of the
above airports. Please be advised that the program
organizers will not be held responsible if an
applicant books a non-refundable ticket before
acceptance to the program has been confirmed.

CURRICULUM The program will run from July 1, 2002 to
July 25, 2002. There will be two levels of teaching:
beginner and intermediate; advanced students need not
apply. All competencies of Arabic language will be
stressed: reading, writing and speaking, with an
emphasis on grammar, morphology and vocabulary.
Students will be asked to make every effort to speak
in Arabic only. This immersion approach will assist in
furthering the students' aptitude in comprehension.
There are no "pre-requisites" for the course though it
will be assumed that students can read and recognize
the Arabic alphabet at a fairly reasonable level.

COURSE MATERIALS Upon acceptance to the program,
students will be sent detailed information regarding
the site and program, including maps of the site,
schedules and biographies of teachers, along with
material that must be reviewed and possibly memorized
in advance of the program. Additional materials (if
any) will be provided on site.

ACCOMMODATIONS Accommodations will be at the Hampton
Inn for out-of-town applicants, and local applicants
will be permitted to commute to and from Zaytuna if
they wish. Also, those brothers and sisters from
abroad wishing to secure their own accommodations may
do so. Please include this information along with your
application form so that we may give you the adjusted
course fee amount. Food will be two meals per day
(lunch & dinner), mixed cuisine, with less emphasis on
meat in the diet. Breakfast for out-of-town students
will be served at the Hampton Inn while locals are
expected to arrange their own breakfast before they
arrive each day. Those with special dietary
requirements or allergies should include this
information along with their application.
Accommodation and food for the program are offered
from July 1, 2002 - July 25, 2001. Students coming
earlier and/or departing later should make their own
accommodation arrangements for those days.

ELIGIBILITY All applicants to this year's Ibn Ajurrum
Arabic Intensive Summer Program must meet the
following minimum requirements: (a) 18 years of age or
older and (b) must submit an application form by April
27, 2002 (c) must be able read and write Arabic

like to place copies of the application form in your
local masjid or to give to family and friends who do
not have access to the Internet, a link to an Adobe
Acrobat PDF version of this information document along

provided below. This year an *application fee*
seperate from the tuition must accompany your

$20 USD which will cover the costs of processing your

We ask Allah to give us success in this life and in
the life to come and bless the efforts of all the
believers and unite their hearts in love of Him.
Ameen.

Wa ma tawfiqi illa billah! And there is no success but
from Allah!
