If your a curious sis, you shouldn't be here. Please exit out of this post.

Salaams,

I think I have a slight diet problem, I've been consuming dates on a rise for the past week due to the hajis returning and although I feel okish generally it seems the inner passions and desires have stirred up quite strongly. Do other brothers have this problem ?.

Inner passions tend to come and go in cycles so maybe you're currently heading for the peak while simultaneously you're energy levels are high with all those dates.

Also Spring is in the air....everyones smiling and happy :).....maybe that feelgood factor is responsible... :-*

Bro Haniff, what do you mean by inner desires?

I love dates, but i've never noticed any kind of inner desires build up, apart from the urge to wanna have more dates!!
I have heard that Honey and Chocolate
Well thats good I have a teaspoon of honey in the morning as well, followed by a couple of dates followed by some fresh fruit and fibre breakfast. Great isn't it!
maybe that feelgood factor is responsible
I'd prefer if this feel good factor went away actually bro, but I guess its a test
Bro Haniff, what do you mean by inner desires
Well in a nutshell, you know, you know what I mean bro, too much garam chay my friend tells me, desires man desires.
Bro. Hanif what about all the running you have been doing, maybe that is causing this?   BTW: has you time been improving, we haven't heard any updates in a while?
Maybe it is Bro, I have thought about it. Sad thing is if I don't do fitness I get very bored and that is more frustrating.
On a whole I'm a lot  fitter, insha-allah I might go for long distance running you know like 10ks. I can also spar with somebody now properly and my overall fitness has improved, however my arms I guess are still not as big as yours.

thanks for the advice lads.

Assalamu'alaikum

Dear Brother,

I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are in.

Dates, honey and some other high energy giving foods can be aphrodisiac
as well.

I've learnt in my Counselling in Islam course, that for brothers who
are fasting to help calm down his desires should refrain from eating
dates as it will be counter-productive.

I think, it would be helpful if you find out about other foods that may
be aphrodisiac as well, inshaAllah.

Meanwhile, please stop eating dates and such foods and do continue
fasting. It can take a while to gain momentum back, but inshaALlah, with
effort, and a heart for Allah, inshaALlah, it is something attainable.

Are you married? If your wife is not around, it may add to this ermm...
situation.

[slm], akhi.
There is nothing wrong or bad about what you are going through.  The natural reactions of the body, whatever their cause may be, are one more proof of Allah's miracles.

As far as I know, the Prophet  [saw] never adviced anyone NOT to eat dates on account of their desires increasing.  On the contrary, it was his sunnah to eat them, especially at the time of breaking fast, for the great benefits Allah has put on them.  He  [saw] did, however, adviced the unmarried young to fast, for that would restrain the sexual desire; so there is your answer.

My advice would be:

- If you are married, take advantage of this gift from Allah (SWT) and use it to enjoy your wife in the ways in which Allah has made halal for you.

- If you are not married, then do as the Prophet  [saw] commanded, and fast as much as it is possible to you, and ask Allah (SWT) for help to refrain from evil, and to grant you a righteous spouse with whom you can fulfill your desires in a halal way, inshaAllah.

Othman.  ;-)

Assalamu'alaikum :)
As far as I know, the Prophet   never adviced anyone NOT to eat

Yes, I agree, that one should follow the Prophet's advise to fast. And
fasting not only affect a person physically, but it also strengthens a
person's spirituality, as natural desires which have no halal means of
chanelling it in the right way can be subdued with this spiritual
strength.

However, this should be a temporary measure... whereas a more permanent
way, as you have also said is to get married and channel these natural
inclinations to the person whom we marry.

Though it is sunnah to eat dates for breaking of fast, it is also
sunnah to drink water or eat fruits. However, there are always moderation in
everything that we do, even in eating all of these. And the effects and
level of moderation of eating these foods is very dependable on the
individual itself. If a person's libido is high, and has no means of
channeling it, then, it would not be against the prophet's sunnah, to eat
less or none of those dates. We also see alternatives that the prophet
provides and eating dates is something that is not waajib upon everyone.

There is a case where a man came for counselling as he is unable to
control his desires. Of course, fasting was recommended for him and though
everything went fine in the daytime when he fasts, he finds that he is
unable to control his desires in the night time. It was found out that
he ate a lot of dates when he broke his fast. When this intake was
reduced, his desires was also reduced. So, bodily affects as well as
spiritual strength and other aspects as such a person's psychological being
etc etc etc do play a role in controlling one's desires. It comes in a
package and there is a need to address each aspect should these desires
become a problem for him... not just dates.

Should there be any error and falsehod in my post, may Allah replace it
with truth from others. Ameen.

get married mate, chop chop! and have more dates . . . . just kiddin

bro i dont think eating dates increases ur desires, it creates more energy and thats abt it and energy cannot be destroyed so perhaps the question lies in the transfer and in ur case, it working with ur mind and the energy is transforming into desires.

the way i see it, the Prophet(saw) never warned of such so no worries, try not to think abt it, if it still bothers you, take ur wudu' if ure without one, engage urself with more dhikruLlah and if ure still having difficulty do all the above while fasting:)

having said all this, i dont eat dates so i wouldnt know(only tried abit of the fresh ones when i was in the Haramain).

wa assalaam!

Can't "desires" be fun even if your unable to act them out?  Allah gave us all the emotions to rejoice in.
