Muslim Leadership in UK

i think we have a major problem in the UK where we have no leader who can speak for us all, who can be a uniting figure and show some sort of leadership in issues like hilal etc etc - who are the islamic personalities of the UK that we can push forward to speak as alternatives to Omar Bakri etc etc, who is probably the most recognised face of Islam in this country.

The strength of the jewish community is in their leadership who unite their many divisions and ensure the jewish people earn with jewish, spend with jewish and live with jewish brethrens. do you know they have even started their own lottery so money can be directed towards jewish charities!!

where is this sense of organisation for our community, we badly need such an establishment. we have the MCB, the muslim parliment, YM UK etc etc but i have no idea who they are or what they do. When Tony Blair was meeting muslim leaders i didn't even know who they were, except for the brother Yusuf Islam. We have, alhamdulilah, made progress in setting up muslim schools, recent attempts to watch the media, the muslim directory but how can we get all these efforts together under a unifying figure - is this ever possible, can we do it, am i just crazy!!! ;-)

That's a problem here in Germany too.  And it's especially frustrating for the non-Muslims when they want to have dialogue with the Muslims. Not to mention reverts like myself, because we just don't know where to go.

I think the problem is really finding a figure who is representative of ALL Muslims... that can be very difficult because maybe the Turks want a Turkish one, the Pakistanis a Pakistani, the Arabs an Arab...and so on and so on..
Ideally is to find a leader who is german himself, or British in your case... Easier said than done..
Many Mosques aren't even listed in the telephone book as being Mosques, so for starters you can't even get one representative of every Mosque to a meeting...   :(

So frustrating..  :'(

No you're not crazy, I was thinking the same thing just the other day  :)

The problem with the Muslim leaders is we don't have anyone in power. The jewish community are strong because there are over 200 Jewish MP's in the labour government. 3 of them are prominent ministers who are advisors to Tony Blair. The Muslims have no one! There are only approx 2 Muslim MP's who sit in the back benches but they have absolutely no power.! Without any strong Muslim leaders in government there is no-one that can advice and voice the powerful MP's about the needs of Muslim's in Britain.

We need to start producing these Muslim leaders in our future generations. Perhaps someone on this board will become an influential leader oneday inshallah  :)

wa'salam
